Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 70.6/100, a mean average of 69.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.0/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 20.1.

Such a mixed bag, this band could soar to astonishing artistic heights, or turn out some of the most miserable dreck in music. Focusing on just the good stuff is improtant with this band.
This band was an eye opener for me and really got me interested in non-classical music
Yeah, no...
From 1975 to 1979 they released 5 really good albums. The rest of their stuff has been pretty inconsistent. The Grand Illusion is their best and most cohesive album. Other than that they seem to be more of a greatest hits band.
I like them.
Styx represents how music became bloated in the late 70s... Yes, they can play like nobody's business. But their sound is so awkward and grandiose, and their lyrics silly. This style of music combined with disco led to the punk rebellion.
Styx are a fun band. They're kind of in that "pseudo-prog category"; sometimes they sound proggy, sometimes they sound like a straight-ahead rock band. Anything before Mr. Roboto is fine by me.
A days of yore favourite. Styx were once considered to be among the Top acts around. Then they went Domo Arigato on us and so many good bands came giving us reasons to more or less forget them. To me the music of Styx is like a dear old friend that deserved to be "put back in its place" ... but not so harshly. They did produce great songs and quite good albums (Particularly the run going from Equinox to Paradise). They have their place in my heart, I am not one to forget my early loves but no, I don't listen to them much anymore.
Dennis DeyYoung lives in my neighborhood. No joke.
