It's so Canadian that even Canadians who love this band, such as 5thbeatle, must criticise them more than anything else. Fuck that... they are easily one of the 20 best bands ever. See them live in their prime and tell me they are not one of the best ever. Period. And they've made seven great albums, at least. And they're not dead yet... like Springsteen, Dylan and... Neil Young... Leonard Cohen....
Solid Canadian band, Gord can be a tad narcissistic comparing himself to "Tolstoy on quailudes" is hard to stomach, but their first 6 albums are good nonetheless.
These guys are an institution, and for a decade (90s) led the Canadian rock resurgence. Their outdoor concerts were earthshaking - such energy from the crowd, such emotion in Gordon Downie's voice, such a versatile band; switching from up-tempo rockers that make you want get out on the outdoor rink, to haunting, low key tracks that make you want to change your life. So Canadian, but worthwhile to Americans and the rest of the world. Start with Fully Completely and Up to Here, but they have 12 albums (stick with the pre-2000 work)
Hard to believe that Day for Night is fifth on this list. The Hip are the best Canadian rock band ever and one of the best rock and roll bands ever assembled anywhere and you can suck it if you just don't understand why I say that.
