The sins of the yuppie-jazz era are legion, from Yanni to the Rippingtons, myriad recordings flawed by one or usually more of the great sins that music itself can suffer-- dull, graceless, joyless.
But against that emerged a handful of albums that might never have been recorded or heard, and that added to the musical environment-- Paul Winter's animal albums, "The Penguin Cafe Orchestra's" eponymous album, "Paris Eyes" by Ted Howe.
From Stein and Walder, an album called "Transit." It isn't life changing, like Mysterioso or Blue Rondo, but it sounds graceful, engaged, joyous-- it involves the intellect in a way that is constant but not demanding or insulting. Highly recommended.
