Incredible highs (Blonde on Blonde, Blood On The Tracks, a collection of his lyrics, his autobiography "Chronicles Vol.1") but also boring lows (e.g. most of his concerts since 40 years)

Personally, I would say that Dylan's infamous 80's period contains just as strong song writing as any other period in his long career. The big difference with this decade though, is the production. We all know there was a lot of pressure on artists to conform to the newest trends - those being the frequented use of computers, drum machines, synthesizers, etc. The use of these tools in the studio - though benefiting other artists of the decade - was not a strong suit to Dylan's music. A raw, personal, more heartfelt sound has always been his home. And though he eventually learnt to use the 80's sound to a lesser degree with 'Oh Mercy! (1989) - proving to be quite successful - it was really only a matter of time till he returned to his true, talent showing production, as used on 'Time Out of Mind' - as well as his subsequent albums.

I feel this theory of mine is best proven when looking back on the tracks that somehow managed to escape the '80's sound'. And none managed this moreso than his belated release of the apparent "demo" of 'Blind Willie Mctell' - a true revelation of Dylan's continual song writing talent, well throughout the 80's, and beyond.

In conclusion, Dylan's infamous 80's period, is not a bad period. Not at all. Rather, it is a badly produced period - in a most unflattering way. And personally, I think Dylan should return to the studio from whence those albums came, and redeem them.

What can be said about Mr Dylan that hasn't already been said before? Time and time again, he manages to stay at the forefront of my favourites, never fading, nor even remotely blurring behind any new 'Masterpieces' I may discover that week by any other artist. A true chameleon across the decades. Here's hoping that "well spring of creativity" continues to serve him well.

It took me some time and effort to understand his greatness, but this is the way I view him as an artist now: no other musician has better encapsulated themselves in their music (and more specifically, their lyrics) than Bob Dylan. Do I have any way of proving this? No - I don't personally know Bob Dylan, the person. But I feel as though I know the personality of Bob Dylan, the musician, almost as well as I know myself due to the brilliance of his song-writing.

Have always loved and respected Dyla. Have to say i learned the true meaning of pathos (pity, pain and compassion all wrapped up in one pathetic experience) during his 2013 Seattle show. Voice gone-way beyond gravelly, shuffling aimlessly from one tune??? to another. Had to listen to Dignity repeatedly to get over it.

The most clever lyricist ever. Also a good musician (but not awesome). His music influenced so many artists in rock/pop/folk music that can only be compared to the beatles. Not a great voice, but it's good and listenable; it was better in the beginning though, now it's too nasal.
The most incredible thing about him is how can still push after 50 years good music that anyone would be jealouse of. This is very remarkable.
