Natural Snow Buildings

I edited the comment below because I feel I've recently made an important distinction. There is a 5th sound.

5. While their work pre-2010s may be described as medieval, tribal, and dark, they have since spread to compose what I feel to be space-like sounds, ocean-like sounds, and even frozen-like sounds depending on the frame of mind of the listener. These are the albums that may represent those aesthetics: The Centauri Agent [2010], Waves of the Random Sea [2011], Chants of Niflheim [2011], and Beyond the Veil [2012].

Having heard close to all of their albums, I'd say their discography narrows down to four different sounds.

1. The cinematic experience-type albums: The Winter Ray [2004], The Dance of the Moon and the Sun [2006], The Snowbringer Cult [2008], Sunlit Stone [2008], and Shadow Kingdom [2009].

2. What I call the "Drone Wonders": Laurie Bird [2008], Between the Real and the Shadow [2008], Slayer of the King of Hell [2008], Sung to the North [2008], The Wheel of Sharp Daggers [2008], I Dream of Drone [2008], Night Coercion Into the Company of Witches [2008], Daughter of Darkness [2009], and Daughter of Darkness V [2009].

3. The ambient/free-folk works of Solange Gularte (Isengrind): Golestân [2007], Journey of the 7 Stars [2009], Modlitewnik [2010], and Night of Raining Fire [2012].

4. The singer/songwriter folk (mixed with some ambient) works of Mehdi Ameziane (TwinSisterMoon): Levels and Crossings [2007], When Stars Glide Through Solid [2007], The Hollow Mountain [2009], Then Fell the Ashes… [2010], and Bogyrealm Vessels [2012].


Consider this my personal guide for newcomers as someone who finds this band very personal and influential to me. So to recommend one album of each style, I encourage to try: The Dance of the Moon and the Sun, Daughter of Darkness, Modlitewnik, and When Stars Glide Through Solid.
