Madonna up to Ray of Light is an icon. She wrote seminal pop music, and promoted her image, pushed boundaries, and provoked people. Since 2000, she hasn't aged well. Nothing new is coming out of her and she's desperately grasping for relevancy. She should've called it quits after Music.

Madonna doesn't need a very high vocal range to sound good. She is a great artist with unique and very recognizable voice. She's the first female artist who made real storyline in music video ("Borderline"), the first female who showed dancing in music video ("Holiday" and "Lucky Star"), the 1st female who made video-tribute to a movie ("Material Girl").
Madonna is a singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, director, writer, true businesswoman. She was Nothing but became the most successful & influential female thanks to her hard-working temper.
Unlike monotonous Mariah Carey, Beyonce....and many others, Madonna sang different musical genres (Pop, Dance, Disco, Gospel, R&B, Jazz, Lounge, Trip Hop, New Jack Swing, Country, Latin, Broadway score etc) and she sounded different & fresh in each of them.

She's trying too hard.

Not a great vocalist, not a great song writer, you wouldn't call her a great looker either. BUT with 4 decades on the top, she's the most successful female recording artist ever!
