I read once that Beck was the 90s consolation prize for losing Kurt Cobain. I disagree. Beck was (and is) a far greater genius than Cobain ever was. For a long time I wasn't a fan, but his music has grown on me. Probably one of the greatest rappers of all time, if you think about Beck that way and if not, he's still one of the greatest alt rockers of all time. One of the great geniuses of all time.

junodog4I don't understand why Beck isn't ranked higher on this site. He is creative, he is solid with lyrics, melody and hooks, and he doesn't follow anyone else's template. I figured he'd fit right in to the indie-hipster vibe of this site. Who figured?
Essential 90's, musical and lyrical genius, incredible performer. Favs; Odelay, One Foot..., Mellow Gold, underrated Midnite Vultures, Sea Change, Modern Guilt, Information, Mutations, Guero, Stereo...
jhuikBeck really stymies all of us, doesn't he? I'm surprised by the order of albums here and I really don't like Sea Change and Mutations. I'd say his best are Odelay (okay, something we almost all agree on, I guess), Guero then the Information. Why doesn't anyone else 'get' that album?
