Top 100 Music Albums of the 2000s by meccalecca
Napster. Music DL'ing blew the doors off of a corporate controlled music universe, resulting in an explosion of independent music. The best and worst thing to happen to music in decades. Artists were forced to sacrifice the holy dollar for exposure.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 12% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.6/100, a mean average of 88.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.6.

Ahhh such a joy to scroll through!! And not just chocked full of the classics either! I love your taste - it's made me interested to check out your other charts.
The 2000s is a decade I feel I know enough to make a decent list, though this have given me something to aim for. Would love for you to check mine out so far and tell me what you think.
Well done!
This is a fantastic chart, not least because your opening note appreciates the radical change that digital technologies brought to the ways that we listen to music. I'm thrilled to see Blacklisted ranked generously here, as I think it's a criminally underrated album on BEA. I also love Funeral (I know everyone does, but it's for good reason), Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and From a Basement on the Hill. A lot of knowledge in this chart--great work!
@outlaw Long Division is pretty awesome too. It should be on my 90s chart, but something about The Great Destroyer really stuck with me more than nearly any album i've heard. It may partially because I've seen them play most of the songs live a bunch of times, but it's also a lot to do with the lyrics, especially "When I Go Deaf"
@Lethal It's funny. When I'm totally honest with myself hip hop just fails to reach me the same way. That's not to say I don't love some hip hop. My 2000s year charts have some Ghostface, El-P, Aesop Rock, Anti-Pop Consortium, MF Doom, Dilla, Cut Chemist, etc. but as much as I like those records, they can't crack the top 100. but this is also the top 100 out of probably about 2,500 records. there's still plenty of albums i've totally forgotten to add to the charts. I was writing during the 2000s, and consuming way too much music to keep track of.
Lots of "epic, talented bands alive, but very few people seem to have ever heard of them"...
So didn`t I.
A lot to discover.
Never heard Kaada… will check.
Yeah. I love Alligator. It's just been a while since I've listened, so I think that was hurting it. Definitely my favorite by the National
Alligator will keep climbing:)
