For the record, this ain't my "Greatest Albums" chart as much as my "Favorite Albums" chart... anyways, goddamn do I love this album. There's emotion, there's tongue-in-cheek wit and self-deprecation, there's danciness and creaky piano... every song is just pristine. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2014]

Natalie Portman didn't lie: my life was definitely changed by The Shins. While it lacks a little in consistency, the 'lows' are still high and that makes the highs even higher. Plus, the album closer The Past and Pending is just so damn good, and even the bonus track (Sphagnum Esplanade) is amazing. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2014]

Balls to the wall punk I can dance to? Yes pleeeease. Even their 'slower' moments are fantastic, and when they kick into tracks like the 2-minute ballbuster Pull Out, well, look out. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2014]

Man, did Dylan Baldi knock it out of the park with this reinvention of his own band. This post-punky masterpiece doesn't have a bad track on it, from almost poppy gems like single Stay Useless and Fall In to the epic 9-minute jam Wasted Days. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2014]

A mega-hyped British band who releases a concept album for their debut and not only lives up to the hype but surpasses it? Sounds like Arctic Monkeys to me! Alex Turner's wit is front-and-center, backed by the ferociously talented pounding of Matt Helders and an uber-solid guitar section to boot. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2014]

MF DOOM's flow is so sick, I'd be the best rapper in the state right now if I had a tenth of his skills. They're on full display here with the cartoony backing and short song-lengths accentuating his rapid-fire rhymes, and seriously, some of the lines just make my head spin. This one, as soon as I heard it, slid right under Madvillainy as my favorite hip-hop album ever. El-P's beats and the atmosphere he creates on this record do so much to set the mood for this almost dystopian album, and the lyrics are definitely no slouch either. This album has pretty much infinite replayability. [First added to this chart: 12/27/2014]

It's THE indie darling album, yes, but it's like that for a reason. The instrumentation? Fantastic in its lo-fi glory (those horns!). The vocals? Teeming with emotion, especially on Oh Comely, which stuns me every time I listen to it. And the lyrics? They'll always be gorgeous and cryptic. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2014]

Probably the most fun record I'll ever hear. It doesn't matter how many samples they used on this album, this sound can only be theirs. The way each song flows into the next absolutely perfectly just accentuates how well put together this entire album is from start to finish. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2014]

A record of slow-burners, but not without stellar moments. There's the drop on Dance Yrself Clean, the homely feel of the album closer (Home, of course!), the wonky bridge in You Wanted A Hit that just drives the point home... oh yeah, and Drunk Girls is damn fun.
