Top 100 Albums by Manchester Bands by Secondsoul
Manchester, England is undoubtedly one of the world's greatest cities in terms of producing talented and extremely creative musical artistes.Prior to when punk changed music in the late seventies, Manchester had given us successful groups such as The Hollies, Bee Gees and Herman's Hermits. In this chart I'm not including any of those but concentrating on what came next. Bands like Joy Division/New Order, The Smiths and The Chameleons changed my life. In the late 80's early 90's the Madchester scene broke out with bands like The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays. Then in the 90's Manchester saw the rise of Britpop bands such as Oasis. I have never known any one city produce so many great bands as what Manchester has. So it's fitting that I do a chart that reflects this city's brilliance. All of these albums were made by bands that have originated from the greater Manchester area. I have limited this chart to a maximum of three albums for each artist. No compilations or greatest hits - all original albums. Hope you enjoy!

Oh and 'Harmony' by The Wake is also pretty good! The band were from Scotland but were signed to Factory records which makes them sort of Mancs! :)
If you are into all things Manchester (and looking at what is on your chart), you might want to check out
'Alma Mater' - The Stockholm Monsters
'Midnight Shift' - Dislocation Dance
'Pigs and Battleships' - Quando Quango
Hopefully you will find something there you like...
Enjoyed the chart btw! :)
Very interesting subject to pick! Without doubt, one of the most recognizable genres of music from a single city. Great job!
The music of Manchester has always fascinated me and few other cities have produced several singular masterpieces. For me, The Queen Is Dead is better than the Smiths debut, and Definitely Maybe is better than What's the Story (probably a lot better). Opinions are only opinions though. Manchester's music is timeless; that's a fact.
