Top 74 Greatest Music Albums by goeie-oko
These are my personal favorite albums, if anyone doesn't agree, that's fine, opinions are opinions, but try not to be rude. (I know my chart is pretty predictable)
I hope you enjoy reading
Also, keep in mind that I am only 15 years old, and have not been listening to music as long as most of you, and there are a lot of albums that I still haven't heard.
(I also intend to put a small (or not so small) sort of review under every album to give my reasoning, and I'll do that when I get the time and when I feel like it)
(My writing skills could improve a lot too, I know, but hey, I'm still learning)

Mainly songs from my dad’s mp3 library like a couple of Beatles songs that I knew, and one or two Metallica songs. But also things like Still Alive from the Portal soundtrack, because I was a huge nerd back then, and the song Fuck You, because I’m such a rebel.
Now, I knew that my dad was a huge Pink Floyd fan, he used to play their albums all the time, so I thought I’d put some of their songs on my IPod too. I picked Wish You Were Here, The Wall, and this album, The Dark Side of the Moon, since I recognized some of the track titles.
I remember sitting in the car on some road in Italy, and being blown away by this album at the time, it was like the best thing I’d ever heard, and by far the best album I’d heard up to that point (not that I had heard any other album before this one, but whatever). I loved every single second of it back then, and I honestly still do.
This is an album that I’ll look back on when I’m 70 and still find amazing, and I’ll still enjoy every minute of it like I did that car trip in Italy those years ago
I can’t express how much I love this album. It’s truly special, I love it more every time I listen to it, and I consider it to be the greatest album of all time.
"The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older.
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death"
Best Songs: "Time", "Eclipse", "Breathe", "Brain Damage", "The Great Gig In The Sky"
Genres: Progressive Rock [First added to this chart: 10/26/2014]
Sure, it comes off as a bit pretentious, but who doesn’t like a bit of pretention now and again? Not me, that’s for sure.
If I ever find an album more ambitious and intricate than this, well, I won’t do anything, because I will never find one. Who knew that there could be so much said about just one state?
"I remember at Michael's house.
In the living room, when you kissed my neck,
and I almost touched your blouse"
Best songs: "Casimir Pulaski Day", "Chicago", "Come On! Feel the Illinoise!", "Decatur", "The Man Of Metropolis Steals Our Hearts", "The Predatory Wasp Of The Palisades", "The Tallest Man, The Broadest Shoulders", "They Are Night Zombies!!"
Genres: Indie Pop, Indie Folk [First added to this chart: 11/06/2014]
And, honestly, the first time I listened to it, It didn’t really hit me. I mean, I liked it, but not really much more than that. Maybe the problem was that I was kind of forcing myself to like it, instead of letting the album prove itself if it’s great. It was like how you can’t fall asleep if you’re trying to fall asleep, it has to come naturally. So I thought I’d let the album rest for a bit.
Fast forward to the next day, somewhere in the late afternoon, and I was thinking about this album again. So I tried for a second time putting it on, maybe it’d really hit me this time, I thought. And boy did it. I vividly remember lying in my bed, wrapped under my blanket, staring out the window, nearly crying because of the beauty of this album. It was more than likely the most emotional I’ve ever gotten over an album.
And every time I listen to it now, I get that same sense of… well… it’s hard to describe, the only way you’ll know what I’m talking about is by giving this album a listen, or two, or three, or even more than that and let it really affect you. It’s an album that you have to concentrate on, not one that’s meant to be played in the background. But once it does hit you, you won’t know how you could have ever lived without it.
"And the meteorite's just what causes the light, and the meteor's how it's perceived, and the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void that lies quiet in offering to thee"
Best songs: "Emily", "Only Skin", "Money And Bear"
Genres: Chamber Folk, Progressive Folk [First added to this chart: 11/30/2014]
For some reason, I didn’t like it, especially this album. I don’t know why, maybe it was Thom Yorke’s vocals, or the experimentation, or just me trying to get a original taste in music, and not just copy my dad’s (our tastes in music are still very similar).
But, after a while, even I couldn’t resist the genius of Radiohead, and therefore this is on this list
This is my favourite Radiohead album because among other things, it’s completely different from their previous albums. Couple that with great songs, and you have yourself an amazing record.
"I'm not here.
This isn't happening"
Best songs: "Everything In It's Right Place", "Idioteque", "The National Anthem", "Optimistic"

Hiding from your brothers, underneath the covers"

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 12% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.8/100, a mean average of 87.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.2/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.2.

Stoked for your future bro
Seems like we have similar music tastes, with 20 albums in common. Hopefully I can take some from here and put them on my chart.
Nice chart!! You really got me curious for Ys from Newsom!
@Space-Dementia
Ys is great and I definitely recommend it. As for muse, I've leistened to their albums and I might put black holes and revelations on here some day, maybe after I've listened to it some more.
And I[m quite thankful to my dad, he's really the reason I've been so interested in music the last couple of years.
@rogue
Thanks man, really appreciate the comment. And I sure hope I'll know as much about music as some of the people on this site by the time I'm twenty.
Dude I fucking love your chart! I will definitely listen to Ys sometime soon. I don't know if you've listened to Muse albums other than Absolution but I feel like you'd really enjoy Origin of Symmetry and Black Holes And Revelations. That's really my only suggestion. As I was going through I was thinking of other artists I would recommend you, but then they all kept popping up. This is great! Also it's really awesome that you and your dad have similar music taste. Be thankful for that!
DUDE. You're into Joanna Newsom and you're 14. You can pretty much say whatever you want. Music knows no age limits. You're going to be very well educated on the history of music by the time you hit your 20s.
When I was 14 stole my dad's Beatles cassette of Rubber Soul and I was never the same.
Kudos to you, man. Also, I've been meaning to check out that Arctic Monkeys album for a will, maybe I'll pop in on now.
Thanks!
Better taste than I had as a 14 year old tbh.
Solid chart. It's like a nice Dadrock/Indie Starter pack with some prog thrown in.
Yeah it is!
