Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Very challenging chart with an avantgardistic approach.

But to be honest: My simple mind needs a bit more lovely tunes..

This is an 11/10 chart lol. Literally everything here is excellent. Wish I was as ecclectic and cool, but at the very least I know and like a lot of these albums, even if most of them aren't top 100 contenders. This is exactly what I'd expect Mr. Ride to listen to.
This is a very interesting chart which I had not seen before – only found it through re-searching for albums on Joe S. Harrington’s 2001-2003 Top 100 Albums (‘Interstellar Space’ in this case).
Although this chart has only five albums in common with Harrington’s (‘Interstellar Space’, ‘Forever Changes’, ‘Get Up With It’, ‘Black Unity’, ‘It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back’), I really like how personal and diverse it is, even without any notes. There are some really interesting choices too – ‘The Lemon of Pink‘ may gel with me on future listens if I give it the time, for one example.
