If Astral Weeks is the apex of emotion through music, this album is the apex of composition and virtuoso orchestation... Charles Mingus rises as one of the greatest natural born geniuses ever, up there with Bethoveen, Bach, Mozart, all the classical virtuosos you could name. Mingus rises above any other musician in popular music, from the second half of the century, because the complexity of the pieces and sheer genius ability to tell a story throgh music is unparalelled. And he poured his soul through music as hard as any other artist. He breathed music, it was his only life, his only destiny, his only scape, his only way to tell his opinion about this world... If you want another personal take on Mingus, go for his album, "Mingus Plays Piano", Myself when Im real is a composition of his when he was younger... listen and feel. The universe cries.

Thanks for everything Charles.

This is simply the most emotional and soul revealing album ever made. I think Van Morrison talks face to face with our creator and we are lucky to witness that, It makes you travel to another place far far away, where another lenguage exists. The mystic feeling in this album is unique, the mystic, improvisation and wonder that went into the recording studio is a mistery even today. Van didn't remember what happened, he said most of it was in a subconcious way. The feeling and intensity was unique and nobody surpassed yet, not even equalled.

This album is pure heart, soul and the divine talking. A perfect album that is above ratings, will endure centuries. It's a tie with the nº1 of my list.

Long life to Brian Wilson, composer and producer of this album, the mastermind behind the proyect.

Arguably the most influential pop album ever, at least the most beautiful for me, "Pet Sounds". Complex compositions and a dreamy feeling...

The production and musical quality are top notch for that year, 1966, a 13 song album with almost no drop of quality in all the album. 4 songs that are perfect and timeless "God Only Knows", "Dont talk" "You Still Believe In Me" "caroline" but there are a lot more that are almost perfect. Once you connect with the feelings of Brian on this songs you can't escape.

Takes time and a bit of cultural background in classical music to really understand this album as a whole piece musically, why do I say this? because at first the idea was to make a tribute album to the "New World Symphony" of Dvorak, a classical composer, the Moodies changed their mind and decided to make a concept album explaining a regular day with an orchestra of course and still inspired on Dvorak's symphony.

If you don't like classical music you won't like this album entirely, that's the problem and that's why it is underrated in the main public view, but in terms of influence for proggresive music of the 70s this album was one of the precursors of the prog genre.

They did a perfect concept album for me, it's one of the very first REAL and neat concept albums and one of the first groups to include an orchestra in an album. A perfect mix of prog rock and classical music to link all the songs to the concept.

The first mistake to listen to this album is listening to it like separate songs, you won't understand a thing, "Nights in White Satin" is not better from the rest of the album, that's a missconception because of the big hit it was, it's just equally perfect like the other pieces to make the whole concept, for me it's just a great ending to this masterpiece. 3 of my top 5 albums are from 1967, and many more excellent albums, so I have to say it again, this year changed the music for ever, is unmatched in terms of influence and beautiful music for me.

Like my first and favourite album of my chart, this album is perfect, beautiful, ethereal and spacial concept album. Almost all the transitions from track to track are perfect.

I think of this as the child of "Days Of Future Passed". With a clear concept, and all the songs are beautifully connected.

This is a unique album. It has it's own world inside, like the other two albums of my top 3, it has a ethereal taste, too ahead or their times.

My favs if I have to pick some tracks are: "The Great Gig In The Sky" , "Time" , "Us And Them" and "Money"

The main studio engineer behind this album Alan Parsons is a genius as well as Pink Floyd members, production is so perfect.

For me "Dark Side Of The Moon" is easily the best album of the 70s and my second fav overall.

Inspired by "Pet Sounds" in a effort to surpass it, Paul said it. Sgt. was a very ambitious album, because in the other side of the sea appeared a contender Pet Sounds of The Beach Boys, and they wanted to to do something as great as Pet Sounds and they suceeded for me, Brian Wilson effor with Pet Sounds was to top Rubber Soul, it was like a circle of influential albums.

As it is very groundbreaking in the magic year again, 1967, I don't think is the best album ever but is close, I prefer Pet Sounds by a small gap Pop music wise, Sgt. has 4 perfect songs, and the rest overall very very solid, creative tracks and all has the same concept tone.

For me the best album of The Beatles is this one just for the influence, but In quality is on pair with "Revolver", the impossible thing to match The Beatles is to do that many great albums and in a row, I say this beacause I think they have 3 more albums almost as good as this one, a thing that only the best band ever could do. "Revolver" "Abbey Road" are the most close to Sgt in quality, "Rubber Soul" is very good too and was influential in the "Pet Sounds" making.

The thing with the Beatles is that they could do 3, 4 or 5 albums with a level equal or more to another groups best album. The best group ever to this day, no doubt.

Track to track is amazing, but as a whole concept album is much better, a masterpiece.

For me the best album of the last 30 years so far. Took me 3 listens to really feel it. This album defines the entry on the 21th century, the computer and robots era.

It has some sad but beautiful songs. My favorite 3 tracks are "No Surprises"
"Paranoid Android" "Let Down" and "Karma Police"

"No Surprises" is the one of the most depressing song I've heard but amazingly beautiful, a strong contrast of a depressing truth and the beautiful joy of life at the same time.

"That's what people here don't have, variety. All Radiohead, all 90s 00s albums have the most quantity of rating". So what's different with you having so many albums from the 60s and 70s, most of which being classic rock? Again, I like classic rock, but having mostly one genre isn't really variety, is it?

Also, did you downvote all of the positive comments on my chart? If you did, thanks, had a good laugh.

There's a little idiom: "variety is the spice of life". That can apply to your chart. Not that I disagree with it, you have some very good choices here. But there's no variety. All but one of your entries are from the 60s and 70s, and while I'm not trying to be rude, it wouldn't hurt to try and listen to some different stuff.

Also two things: 1. Most of the "greatest" charts on this site are subjective, not objective. 2. Please stop trying to assert your opinion as being objective. One album that can hold a meaning to one person could be considered rubbish by another. I'll just hold off on a rating, for now.
