Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by limowreck_69 (2013)

« View previous chartView next chart »

All of these albums I have played half to death- except Some Girls by Rolling Stones, I just threw that in coz i really like Miss You- so this list is quite personnel to me, I've also tried to include a wide range of artists. One thing about this chart is that I haven't included any Beatles albums, this is because I'm sick of seeing them dominating everyone's top 10. While I can appreciate the huge impact they have made on music I can't help but see them as the equivalent of the monkey at the beginning of the evolution timeline- Beatles wrote simple songs with simple rhythms and simple melodies- and I think music evolved into something much more. Just my opinion. If you think I have any other omissions then f### you, this is MY list of what I consider to be the best ever albums.

The Holy BibleManic Street Preachers
In describing this album, a lot of critics have said that there is quite a strong contrast between Richey's lyrics, and the music, and that lyrically it is incredibly heavy but the music isn't so much. I would competely disagree, James Dean Bradfield has clearly wrote the album looking at Richey's lyrics, and his deteriorating mental state has had a massive affect on how this whole album sounds. Because of this combination between deep lyrics and music, I would even go as far as to say that it is the heaviest album ever-it is heavy in a way that no metal album is. In other words, not an easy listen.

There's probably a more intellectual way i can describe this album rather than "fu#*ing brilliant" so I'll try. The way that each song builds up to the riff and the chorus is incredible and literally feels like adrenaline is being pumped into you- perhaps with the exception of "getaway car" which is a brilliant relaxing cotrast to the rest of the songs on the album. The lyrics are amazing and the riffs are explosive. This RATM and Soundgarden crossover has got to be the best supergroup album ever.

...And Justice For AllMetallica
Metallica's first album without Cliff Burton, and Jason Newstead doesn't at all live up to him on this album, every bass line here copies the guitar and can barely be heard, which is largely down to how then album was mixed as well. But despite this lack of interesting bass this album still sounds amazing, and the other members were clearly on form, it has some really nice guitar work and the drumming is superb, resulting in each song sound awesome, "One" is up there with the greatest songs ever written.

I like the diversity I think a lot of people can find some new music they like off your chart.

One comment I disagreed with is calling We Are Scientists Indie. I think they more qualify as Emo not that it make its a bad thing.

Apart from never having really been much into metal so having a fundamental difference and never getting past Are You Gonna be My Girl being a rip off of Lust For Life with Jet I think this chart is pretty damn good. Particularly nice to see some love (and squalor) for We Are Scientists. Have you tried Relationship of Command by At the Drive-in? It strikes me as something you'd like.

Even though the Beatles aren't in your chart, I do appreciate the honesty of why you didn't include them. I respect that this chart is your own opinion and no one else's.

Sick of the Beatles? Sick of Radiohead. From one monkey to another, the original one is infinitely better. Simple songs? Try playing them.

Agree about the Beatles, that their albums just ain't that great as they are often described. Interesting list otherwise

A solid, well thought out list of classic albums. Solid mix of decades. And your thoughts on 'that' band...it was the simple songs that made them great. The overblown post '65 crap drug them down. I would love to see your thoughts on the rest of the albums. I enjoyed the ones you did comment on.
