Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by lanis

Yes, its very loaded with 1991-onwards music, but given the choice, this is what I would want to listen to. Also find it very hard to rate music of different decades against other!

Listened to this morning, noon and night when it came out & still kept hearing new things in it - such a rewarding listen in that regard. Also was a 'gateway' album that opened me up to so many other bands. Favourite song: Exit Music [First added to this chart: 09/17/2011]

Some may prefer his lo-fi start, but I think he really hit the right combination of songs vs instruments on this album. Favourite song: Flightless Bird, American Mouth (even if Twilight tried to ruin it for me) [First added to this chart: 09/17/2011]

As my introduction to Sufjan, from the first moments of first track 'Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois' I knew I was listening to something special. Its great when you can discover an artist part-way through their career, so you can overdose on their back catalogue and wait with anticipation for future material. Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 86.3/100, a mean average of 85.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 86.4/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.6.

Good chart! Always meant to actually check out Iron and Wine. I should check out Tindersticks. Gosh only 4 albums in common.

First time I've KNOWN and liked almost all records on a chart. And therefor you could have a look at mine and get some new listenings? You "should" like Moneybrother and maybe Chet Baker Sings?

Tons of killer albums on here. Just remember who all these artists are influenced by, you might want to look into your 60's, 70's and 80's a little closer.

I guess your chart picks up in dates, where mined starts to fade away, which you would have thought would not mean a strong connection or like. Not the case, I really like this chart.
