SmileBrian Wilson
"On which nearly 40 years of worry, divisions and nervous breakdowns culminate in a record as perfect as perfect can be. This is simply the best record ever made. No wonder I'm smiling..." "This concept album about a messed-up mod and his 4-way-split personality is simply one of the best albums ever made by anybody. Townshend's characterisation is spot-on, with his lyrics at their best." Highlight: again pretty much everything but 'Is It In My Head?' is a terrific little track that never gets picked for special mention.(Read more of this review at Alan's Album Archives - see my profile page for more)

Featuring various members of the CSN and Dead families too" Highlight:brief as it is, Grace Slick's 'Sunrise' is a unique marvel, damning 2000 years of civilisation to hell to an accompaniment of double-tracked feedback! Didn't bother to look all the way through. So I'll just go with saying that it's strange to see 'Trans' in the top 10.

Even though we only have a handful of albums in common, I like how you describe them, especially the top 10.

Big and Wild, like any great BEA chart should be. Lots of 60s and 70s classics but no knee-jerk choices. The ever-underrated Arthur is a superb top ten entry.

Many thanks for your comment, I'm glad you like it and yes, "Long, Long, Long" is easily one of The Beatles' best songs!

I have seen your chart a couple of times before, but I'm very curious to know how "Trans" is compared to other Neil Young albums. I've only heard very few of his albums.

Really cool chart! Neil Young's Trans is woefully ignored by most. Well done!

Xavygravy: I totally agree, 'I Went To Sleep' would be the best thing on the album if it weren't for the 'Smile' pair, which do indeed sound out of place here. Pleased to hear of another fan who understand the Beach Boys 'magic'!

Yes, I listened to 20/20 as well. It has some great tracks such as "I Can Hear Music", "The Nearest Faraway Place" and "I Went To Sleep" (which could have been on 'Friends'). Our Prayer and Cabinessence are brilliant too, of course, but they sound too out of context on this album, and are much preferred on Smile/The Smile Sessions.

Xavygravy: I love 'Friends', I so wish it was better known! I've always been so impressed by how together Brian Wilson is on that album, despite all his troubles. Did you get it on the two-fer-one Cd with '20/20'? That's quite a strong album too!
