Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by weedygonsalez (2013)
I'm not including anything by the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Nirvana and Led Zeppelin because, really, they don't need my love. From a quick glance everything on this site already skews super-heavily toward unconditional love for the classic rock greats, so I'll just give them a little holla from this blurb over here. Holla!
Everything from 1 - 20 goes to 11. 21 - 65 are all solid 10s. 66+ are all, at most, only a few decimals or decibels away from perfection.
Bubbling just below the radar:
Albert Ayler - Spiritual Unity
Albert King - Born Under a Bad Sign
Art Brut - Bang Bang Rock and Roll
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica
The Cars - The Cars
Caribou - Andorra
Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables
Destroyer - Kaputt
Dinosaur Jr. - Farm
Donovan - Sunshine Superman
Eric B & Rakim - Paid in Full
The Format - Dog Problems
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach/Demon Days
Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters
Jack Rose - Luck in the Valley
James Blackshaw - Cloud of Unknowing
Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
Kleenex Girl Wonder - Ponyoak
Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On
Michael Jackson - Thriller
The O'Jays - Back Stabbers

T Rex - The Slider
T.I. - King
Thelonious Monk - Genius of Modern Music
The Walkmen - Heaven

| Album | Band | ||||||||||||||||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
5. (=)![]() | All Hail West Texas | The Mountain Goats | |||||||||||||||||||
| Runners up: The Sunset Tree, Zopilote Machine, Hot Garden Stop, Nine Black Poppies, Transcendental Youth, Tallahassee, the songs "Palmcorder Yajna" and "Ox Baker Triumphant," the "Jam Eater Blues" single, virtually anything else John Darnielle has ever written, including his stuff in The Extra Glenns, and just about any bootleg you can get your hands on. Almost never is it true that everything in a musician's body of work is essential. The Mountain Goats are the exception. | |||||||||||||||||||||

6. (=)![]() | Discovery | Daft Punk | |||||||||||||||||||
| While Homework (a close runner up) put French House on the map with its relentlessly funky instrumentals, Discovery is Daft Punk taking that funk and shooting it into outer space, both literally and metaphorically. As a realization of a band's image, it's a flawless concept album: each and every track is united in worship of the futuristic and the childlike thrill of discovery. Daft Punk completely ruins the archetype that robots are dull and emotionless with Discovery (though they undo all that good work with Human After All, but let's not talk about that). | |||||||||||||||||||||

9. (=)![]() | Voodoo | D'Angelo | |||||||||||||||||||
| D'Angelo is the most skilled, remarkable R&B talent to emerge since the peak of Philly Soul. Voodoo takes the shiny, sheer brilliance of Brown Sugar, slaps on a coat of grit, and ships it first class to Africa. Holy crap this album is great. | |||||||||||||||||||||

14. (=)![]() | Fishscale | Ghostface Killah | |||||||||||||||||||
| The Gold Standard for 60+ minute hip-hop opuses. Between this and Supreme Clientele, Ghostface is leagues ahead of any other Wu Tang clannie in terms of solo output (u mad, raekwon??) | |||||||||||||||||||||

18. (=)![]() | The Moon & Antarctica | Modest Mouse | |||||||||||||||||||
| Modest Mouse completes the Holy Trinity of indie rock legends unafraid of warping and advancing their sound with each subsequent album. Moon and Antarctica is undoubtedly the tightest of all their albums, each strand of music adding up to a living, breathing sonic universe. Runners up: Interstate 8, The Lonesome Crowded West | |||||||||||||||||||||

20. ![]() | The Meadowlands | The Wrens | |||||||||||||||||||
| To quote GOB Bluth, "I've made a huge mistake." How did I go so many years on this chart without paying tribute to, without a doubt, the most emotionally and musically intense rock album of the last 25 years and probably ever okay just saying it now ever? Every time it comes up, no matter what mood I'm in, Meadowlands somehow manages to simultaneously invigorate and drain me, feel like conquering the world and hiding under my bed. Power pop for the broken and powerless. Nothing that could be tentatively tagged as "emo" would ever hold a candle to "Hopeless" or "Faster Gun" or "Happy." In fact, my favorite song on this album changes almost daily (except nothing could get better than "Boys You Won't," seriously). | |||||||||||||||||||||

21. (20) ![]() | Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia | The Dandy Warhols | |||||||||||||||||||
| Simply, the most solid, entertaining 13 songs I could ever listen to. It's so solid, it even has a song called "Solid." That's solid. Runner up: The song "We Used to Be Friends." | |||||||||||||||||||||

22. (21) ![]() | Sin-A-Matic | Louis Logic | |||||||||||||||||||
| Maybe not the BEST rap album ever rapped, but Sin A Matic has the special distinction of being my FAVORITE. Louis's raps are crude and clever, weird and whimsical, a class act conceptually exploring the depths of bad taste. An underrated treasure of leftfield hip hop. Runner up: Misery Loves Comedy | |||||||||||||||||||||

24. (23) ![]() | Post-Nothing | Japandroids | |||||||||||||||||||
| I left this album commentless for seemingly the longest time, possibly because of the strong emotional charge it carries. It is very difficult to vocalize these emotions without sounding like a wimpy little wuss eating a big heaping bowl of cheese and corn. Post Nothing is angry music for lovers, loving music for the angry, beautiful noise and noisy beauty. "I Quit Girls" has made me cry. Other songs that have made me cry: NONE. | |||||||||||||||||||||

25. (24) ![]() | Night Falls Over Kortedala | Jens Lekman | |||||||||||||||||||
| Whenever I listen to Jens Lekman, I never feel like I'm listening to music on an album. It's going to a fruity, super bright romantic farce set in the ironic frozen pits of Sweden, or having a conversation with an older friend who dresses much, much better than me. It's hard to verbalize how Lekman conjures the instant atmosphere of intimacy and humor that makes such hypotheticals possible, but he does it remarkably well. The cheeriest, funniest, and best ever alb--uh, experience from the great region of Scandinavia. | |||||||||||||||||||||

Anyone Who has Loveless #1 is alright with me.
the notes, the hip-hop selections (wu-tang and pharcyde esp.), TMBG with no shame, laughing stock, rain dogs, cure for pain, marquee moon...quite sweet, my man...choice lineup.
There's really something for everyone to like here, while avoiding the standard picks. The inclusion of The Joggers was really great to see. That bands never got the love they deserved
Not only is this chart's content fantastic, but you clearly put a huge amount of effort into your chart. Good job!
Sooooo great! Love this chart so so so much! Thanks!
The coincidence of rap highlights and the items of alternative rock is amazing.
Fantastic chart, absolutely love the diversity and notes. I'm going to be grabbing plenty of recommendations from this one.
Your chart is responsible for more wish list additions then any source I've run across since I started on this site. Brilliant selections with even better album notes. Bravo!
Nice... Now push Eric B and Rakim up onto your chart already.
Very unique list.
