Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The 80s is where I seem to part ways with everybody. I viewed your 60s and 70s, and as usual I have about 30 or 40 in common with most people. Then in the 80s this drops to about 3 in common. Probably because I don't like all the major stars of the 80 s. All the big names. Prince, Springsteen, U2,Michael Jackson etc.

Plenty of unashamed 80s pop in here, which is good. And some good indie albums like Pixies. A good mix. Great to see Seven and the Ragged Tiger by Duran Duran. Every bit as good as the more lauded Rio. And good to se Listen Like Thieves by INXS too. Good stuff. I wa a child in the 80s so the decade holds a lot of nostalgia for me.

Good chart, the 80's was not a great decade for music in general but it wasn't all bad. 22 albums in common and all the usual suspects are here : U2 REM Prince and good to see Janet Jackson Madonna & Lionel Richie. A little too much Genesis but I like Peter G. Overall 85/100

Outstanding chart! Purple Rain, Doolittle, and Murmur are all great selections. Also nice to see Listen Like Thieves, which is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me (but not really), on here. I like 1999 in the top ten, as it's nearly as good as Purple Rain, but for some reason never seems to get anywhere close to the same appreciation.
