AcmeJon Spencer Blues Explosion
While Nevermind changed me at 13, this album changed me at 20. The Blues Explosion taught me that attitude is as big a part of rock and roll as anything. I started working at a radio station because of these guys. Take the Rolling Stones at their sleaziest, put them in a blender with cheap bourbon, cigarette butts, women's panties, and a RL Burnside CD, and out pours Acme. Drink it sloppily and smack your lips. A powerhouse album that rocks and rolls from start to finish. I can't recommend it enough.

Abbey RoadThe Beatles
Side B is the greatest progression of songs anywhere. It pushes this album to the top of the Beatles heap. Side A has Lennon at his best (Come Together), Harrison at his best (Something) and Ringo Starr doing his thing (Octopus's Garden). This is the Beatles emptying the tank before they call it quits.

Mermaid AvenueBilly Bragg & Wilco
I know this is a re-imagining of Woody Guthrie's writing, but Wilco and Billy Bragg seemed to be the perfect artists to bring it to life. They seem to perfectly select which songs are better suited to which artist, basing selections on vocals, instrumental sound, and even political tone. Nothing tops California Stars and Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key.

Five Days In JulyBlue Rodeo
Blue Rodeo is the epitome of Canadiana. Not the Tragically Hip, not Arcade Fire. These guys are mellow, deep, connected to the people and the land, and musically gifted. And this is their best album.

MonsterR.E.M.
I give R.E.M. credit. They took a risk here - went for a murkier, fuzzier, bolder sound. They deviated from their usual, and got mixed reviews. Some loved it, some hated it. I think it's brilliant.

SuperunknownSoundgarden
Thunderous. Chris Cornell showed me that vocalists can shred their throat and still be pitch perfect. Best front-man ever, and his band isn't too shabby either. Nirvana opened the door, but with this album, Soundgarden ripped it off it's hinges.

Unplugged In New YorkNirvana
I don't like live albums. I found the 'unplugged' trend contrived. But Kurt Cobain sounds so in touch with his audience, baring himself raw. The covers are fantastic, the originals given new life. A gem.

Thanks for the comment!
Yeah, adding more comments is something I meant to do, alas I struggle to find enough time for it atm.

I'll come back to your chart later if you don't mind, but so far I like it. Happy to find "Enter the Wu-Tang" so high on your list.

Great Chart! And a great #1 I feel like I've been neglecting The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion lately...I need to change that. I also love that you've included Some Girls, nice surprise.

Funny. I had no idea I was giving off a hipster vibe. But I do in Brooklyn, so I guess it's hard to avoid.

As the only person on BEA that I've seen include Rocket From The Crypt on your chart, I applaud you! I am a bit surprised you'd pick RFTC though. Most fans prefer Circa Now and Scream Dracula Scream.
