Finally managed to extend this to a 100, so rate away all you like. One artist, one album, no compilations - trying to avoid repetition with my All-Time chart, so whilst artists like The Stone Roses will get a shout, albums that should otherwise be in here (The Smiths debut, for example) will be replaced with other similarly great LPs in the artist's canon. You'll see what I mean as you work your way down the list. Will fill this with comments and everything when the phone stops ringing! Jimmy, April 2012

The Queen Is DeadThe Smiths
PICK - Cemetry Gates. A mate called Simon taped me every Smiths album and I played them so much that I nearly wore them out. I could still quote you pretty much every single lyric from TQID word for word. Last time I challenged someone to this was my gig buddy's Norweigan housemate.

George Best The Wedding Present
PICK - My Favourite Dress. Jingly-jangly brilliance: guitars played to within an inch of their life, acerbic put-downs mixed with Northern humility - the boy Gedge deserves so much more credit. Saw them play the whole LP from start to finish at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth a few years back - a total revelation.

The Stone RosesThe Stone Roses
PICK - I Am The Resurrection. Bless Ma and Pa, they always knew what I wanted. The one band you would NEVER want to reform - one amazing LP, one dud, tons of awful live performances. They'd never capture the magic again. What's that you say... that HAVE reformed. Bugger.

Hex Enduction HourThe Fall
PICK - Fortress/Deer Park. To this date, I have NEVER seen the Fall live. This may sound odd, but from what I've heard MES is not the sort of frontman that lends himself to the overall 'pleasant gig experience' I've enjoyed elsewhere. Like Peel, I want to keep my distance to maintain the mystique. And long may it continue.

Chronic TownR.E.M.
PICK - 1,000,000. Early REM makes my heart sing more than anything they did post-IRS, so hence their essential first EP merits inclusion for being possibly the best thing they ever did. Shame it took them 30 years to realise they couldn't top it.

Dum-DumThe Vaselines
PICK - Dum-Dum. The Vaselines will forever remind me of having an MRI scan, reason being that in my head (which was awash with all sorts of mind-bending painkillers) fooled me into thinking the woman operating the machine was listening to them in her lab. This proved to be false, but luckily got me through the whole experience whilst having Elton Fucking John pumped into my ears for 20 minutes whilst in the tube.

Fresh Fruit For Rotting VegetablesDead Kennedys
PICK - Kill The Poor. The first of many a scratched LP purchased from the now-defunct second hand record emporium that more closely resembled a charity shop (and smelt like one too!) than a purveyor of life-affirming musicality. It had a sink in the corner, by the Big Band section.

Colossal YouthYoung Marble Giants
PICK - Wurlitzer Jukebox. Still have no idea why I bought it, and partly annoyed with them as it's thanks to YMG that we have to endure the loathesome XX. Only Vic Godard made a ping-pong ball sound so dolorous. Miminalism can be beautiful - here's the proof.

Playing With FireSpacemen 3
PICK - Lord Can You Hear Me. It all started in a bargain bin in Parrot Records in Canterbury - my copy was one of those that had a slice taken out of the case so that the man behind the counter knew it was a cheapie. Big mistake on their part, amazing bargain on mine and the start of a big long dream whereby Lord Can You Hear Me will be played as I shuffle off this mortal coil...

Michael ProphetMichael Prophet
PICK - Love & Unity. First heard off back of Scientist's "Rids The World Of The Curse Of The Evil Vampires" LP, which is by and large the dubs of the tracks enclosed within. As time's past, though, I've prefered the vocal cuts, Early 80s proto-dancehall at it's finest. Crucial. Irie. etc. Also the only album on this list who's inclusion was influenced by being the soundtrack to a computer game (in this case Grand Theft Auto III).

Now why didn't I think of putting 'Dum Dum' on my chart (doh!)

I am also a bit in shock to see 'Mudhoney' on the chart as it really doesn't fit with my twee image of you - but as they say variety is the spice of life :-)

Love it and can't wait to see the remaining 50 and the comments that I know will follow when you get to it !
