Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.3/100, a mean average of 68.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.3.

This album is awesome, I didn't think they would make the same emotive sound of their previous album/ep. 8/10.
following up an album about teenage angst after over 15 years was gonna be hard in more ways than one, and it shows. even if lines like "doctor, it hurts when i exist" or "i've malevolence inside of me" aren't actually worse than anything on the first album, it certainly feels like it when it's coming out of a fully grown man rather than a teenager. the vocal delivery seems a little tighter and less emotive, too.
so the lyrics aren't nearly as effective, which should be a given. that said, the music seems just as remembered. tight and overlapping guitar lines in dynamic songs with some standout drumming deliver here. there's a lot going on in these songs, and it's quite a thing to behold. the production isn't quite as "warm" this time around, though.
this album successfully does NOT ruin american football's legacy, nor the impact of the first album. but it isn't close to the same level of it's predecessor, and will be remembered as a footnote to it rather than as an equal.
65/100. favorite tracks: my instincts are the enemy, desire gets in the way
