Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.5/100, a mean average of 77.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.9.

This is such a fun record to listen to with its high energy songs being irresistible to me. The big hits on here are just so incredibly catchy that it makes me want to replay them over and over again without stopping. This is most true for Sally MacLennane which is such a phenomenal song. The album definitely peaks near the beginning with the first 6 or so tracks being so passionate and fun to listen to. However, once you get passed Dirty Old Town there is a significant drop off in quality and I find the next 4 songs to be filler. They really drag the record down as they are skippable tracks that could really have been cut off the record due to them being uninteresting and boring. Overall, a great album that is let down by a weak spell of songs but that doesn't take away from the quality of the earlier tracks which are incredible.

Terrific varied album. Happy days travelling in the car with the kids singing along to Sally MacLennane.

Shane McGowan at his best, mostly coherent and a great selection of songs New and old, well produced by Elvis Costello I think I recall. Stand outs, dirty old town, pair of brown eyes.

What a great album - only just getting to it. I loved their Fairytale of NY (and think its the best Xmas tune) but never really listened to them. But there are a number of great tunes here culminating in the superb "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" - great storyline.

In questo album i Pogues estraggono almeno un paio di gioielli assoluti ( "A pair of brown eyes" e "Dirty old town" ) ed in generale raggiungono il perfetto equilibrio tra sgangherata forma e corposa sostanza.
