Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 89.8/100, a mean average of 88.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 89.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.4.

6 of the 8 songs on this album - "Black Dog", "Rock and Roll", "Going to California", "The Battle of Evermore", "Stairway to Heaven" and "When the Levee Breaks" are rock masterpieces. Those tracks alone are enough to warrant this album an exceptional score, but "Misty Mountain Hop", a slightly satirical take on the lifestyle on early 70s hippies, is also a near-masterpiece, and one of Zeppelin's most underrated songs. "Four Sticks" is the weakest track on the album, but it is still a good song.

This album - and Led Zeppelin as a band - is often categorised as heavy metal by critics, but I would not call Led Zeppelin a heavy metal band or this album a heavy metal album, although both this album and influenced almost all metal bands that followed, even to this day. None of the songs on this album come close to metal, especially if you compare it to an album like Master of Reality, a4 contemporary release by Black Sabbath. The fourth Led Zeppelin album is very much a hard rock album, with elements of blues rock, folk rock and even progressive rock, all of which are exemplified on "Stairway to Heaven".

An absolute classic of the rock genre that commands your attention right from the start with the energetic Black Dog that is one of the greatest opening songs of all time. We continue with this energy into Rock And Roll which is a very infectious listen and is enjoyable no matter how many times you revisit this album. We then get a short dip in quality with track 3 but then the album explodes with brilliance on what is one of the greatest songs ever made which is Stairway To Heaven. This song demonstrates how amazing every member of the band is and perfectly encapsulates the group for me. On side 2 we get a slow start with Misty Mountain Hop and then the weakest track on the record which is Four Sticks. This track for some reason never grabs my attention and I find it to be quite repetitive. Next we have the beautiful Going To California which demonstrates the groups softer side before once again exploding with the absolute masterpiece that is When The Levee Breaks. This concludes the record perfectly as everyone leaves satisfied with their experience due to it. Overall, there are some massive moments on here which are some of the most important in music history but a few slower tracks hold this album back slightly in my opinion.

Over the space of no time at all Led Zeppelin quickly became the leading name in rock and the first two albums so exactly that; rock. This album however shows so many differing sides to the bands many talents and also highlights the different shades of colour the band could reveal. Their magnum opus still rocks hard but it is the moments of intense, raw beauty that makes it one of the greatest albums of all time.

Black Dog and Rock and Roll to start IV is incredible. This album also features two of the greatest songs of all time (Stairway to Heaven and When the Levee Breaks)!

Amazing album, every song is special in its own way. If I had to choose best of all time this is definitely a contender. Stairway To Heaven is best song of all time, Rock And Roll, Black Dog and When The Levee Breaks are awesome.
