A great display from Modest Mouse that is full of quality and is a very rewarding listen when you give it time. There more abrasive and harsh sound might not be for everyone but I absolutely love it. Their style of music is so enjoyable to listen to for me and it is extremely well maintained on here. They never really deviate from their style on here either which leads to a consistent and cohesive listen for us. The percussion and guitar work is outstanding on here as well with its heavy and rough sound working so well together. This comes together perfectly on tracks like Trailer Trash, Heart Cooks Brain, Out Of Gas and Doin' The Cockroach. The peak of the record for me comes right at the beginning with the opening song capturing everything you should expect from this release whilst displaying the talents of the group. However, it could be argued that the music isn't that unique and this style has been done before and done better. I don't buy into this argument much as this album is right amongst the greatest in the genre and can compete with the records that came before it. Overall, a great album full of great performances which makes it an elite level album that deserves the praise that it gets as it is a fantastic experience.
Gets a bit repetitive by the end but there’s a lot of fun to be had along the way, with these bizarre screeching lyrics intertwined with slamming guitars.

I was into Modest Mouse earlier this year and listened to many of their early albums. This one is good but it surprises me to see this in the top 200! I think I'll have to give it a closer listen again.
Building Nothing out of Something may have been my first introduction to Modest Mouse way back in 2003 or 2004. Still a great listen, even though it is an "outtakes" album.
Great album. I don't like it as much as Good news or Moon and Antarctica but it's still great. Best track is Trucker's Atlas
