Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.0/100, a mean average of 78.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.4.

When this album was released a genre of music was invented, Roxy Music. It turned the music world on its ear. Fantastic record!!!
An album that starts out with so much energy and passion, but it slowly dwindles the further into the album you go with the majority of side 2 feeling like quite a drag. That first side is simply fantastic and is Roxy Music at their best with Ferry's vocal taking us on a ride with his clever manipulation of his voice. The way he exaggerates his singing is so enjoyable to me and it boosts the first side up massively. Every song is at least great on that first side with some reaching levels above that. They are all so infectious and just seem to trigger something inside of me that makes me happy. The production is brilliant as well and is consistent throughout the whole record. However, that second side, after The Bob (Medley), just feels so slow and like we are just counting down to the end of the album. The energy and quality seem to just fall of quite a lot, and it impacts the listening experience significantly. You could cut all 4 of the last tracks and I think the record would be better for it as it would feel more compact and not elongated. It really needed a revival at that point and it never arrived which is such a shame as the other part of the record is so good. Overall, there is a tremendous amount of quality on display here and it is close to being an elite level album but is held back by those weaknesses.
I'm not the biggest Brian Eno fan, but I admire how ahead of its time was this album. It's experimental, but it's not balanced so we have great 1st half and not so good 2nd half.
For me the 1st 3 Roxy Music albums are all great in different ways. The party vibe used sets the tone perfectly.
This is my first full listen of this album!. Roxy is quite unique in tonal quality, choices of instrumentation, and chords. What comes to the track order, this clearly frontloaded, the hits are on the A-side.
For a regular pop fan, this is a challenging album. Very ingenious and eclectic.
Their best album obviously and just incredibly fun and innovative
rather similar to music produced at the time does move in a different direction with new music, prog feel to it.
Fav. Tracks: Re-Make/Re-Model, Ladytron, Virginia Plain, Sea Breezes.
The first half of this album is excellent, but the rest doesn't quite reach the same level.
Top tracks: Virginia Plain, Re-Make/Re-Model, Ladytron
Solid debut, which in ‘72 must have sounded like rock n roll from Mars. Clearly influenced by Bowie and Zappa, but with their own very distinct sound.
