Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.3/100, a mean average of 75.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.2.

Under-rated very much on this. Well... I shouldn't be surprised... I need to turn some real hip hop heads on to this website.
At the time, this record was the alternative to the gangsta rap that was beginning to boom out of the West Coast.
To give you an idea, when I first got into hip hop it was thanks to Ice Cube. Nowadays I prefer his cousin, Del. This record is definitely a grower.
Del tha Funkee Homosapien was doing underground hip hop before underground hip hop even existed. While Del is from the west coast, don't confuse his sound with other west coast hip hop. There are two things that separate him. First, while it's true that Del's cousin Ice Cube and DJ Pooh produced most of this album, Del was also in the control room influencing the sound of the album. Second, he didn't grow up in the So.Cal. hoods. He grew up in the Bay area, which I think was a major influence on his sound.
The work of a true maverick who played by his own rules... and a few he borrowed from George Clinton.
