Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.6/100, a mean average of 78.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.5.

When I had my crappy radio show in the late 90s, I would have played the hell out of this.

This is a fun punk record, that obviously has a lot of influences (Wire, Pavement, Sonic Youth). I love all those bands so I at least like this, but unfortunately it doesn't do much to elevate itself above those other bands for me. Most of the songs aren't memorable, and one of the two I can remember (N Dakota) is rehashed as the last song on the album. So it's a fun listen, but I won't be coming back.

Main highlight: the laid back, slacker style vocal delivery.

One listen and I was sold.
Incredibly catchy, fun hooks, furious guitar playing- it's everything a punk/indie rock album should be and Parquet Courts hits the nail right on the head with this one.
The dirty and scratchy guitars and the raw instrumentation gives slight nods to 80's/90's indie rock, but all in all its the sheer catchiness and playfulness of the music that the boys from Brooklyn should be given credit for. An incredibly impressive and under-the-radar debut.
Hope these guys keep going strong for sure.

Best album i've heard in ages...this is the first album for me that truly captures the spirit of Pavement's Slanted & Enchanted. I'm not saying they sound like Pavement, but you can feel the similarities in the way the album jumps around. The track 'Borrowed Time' has the greatest chorus The Damned never wrote whilst stand out track Stoned & Starving is easily song of the year for me. Will it stand the test of time, I dunno....what I do know is that it sounds like a potential classic debut album.

Wow! I dont know what this sounds like, but wow!! Like someone mentioned before, is like a post-punk, not giving a fuck band, but at the same time sounding mature enough.

One of the 2012-2013 wonders

This album is something I haven’t heard in quite a while. Kind of a post-punk revival kind of album. The best comparison I can draw is the album “Double Nickels On The Dime" that Minutemen in 1984 with a mix of Pavement a little. It’s very good, very different. It has this goofiness about it, yet still some rawness to it. A good example is the song “Stoned And Starving" which is literally about being stoned and starving and sounds like it was written while someone was stoned and starving. It’s great, I definitely recommend it.

More true belief in three chord punk-laden rock and roll.
