Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 22% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.0/100, a mean average of 72.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.7.

KoRn is a special case. Its one of those cases where every member sounds original in their own right yet have a cohesive sound together, which in theory should mean greatness. On the other hand, the vocals and the lyrics drag everything down.

Korn have a sound of there own. It was a long slow process for me gelling with this album. I found it OK when I first got it but it all sounded to similar. Fast forward many, many years later and something has clicked. I enjoy it more now than I ever have and it gets better with every listen. Patience was the key.
Best track: Faget
Also love the bagpipe intro to 'Shoots And Ladders'

Really liked this album as a teenager. Gave a listen for the first time in nearly 20 years. Tight rhythm section and roaring guitars, still find this very good.

Favorites: Ball Tongue, Clown, Shoots And Ladders, Helmet In The Bush, Daddy

This album is the only Korn album I can still appreciate as a whole. Solid and consistent, managed to create a brand new genre (I'll skip the fact that 90% of numetal is trash).

Totally agree with the other comments regarding the freshness that this album brought to the metal and broader musical scene at the time. I was obsessed with this album when it first came out - so too were my mates in the band I was in at that time. Sound production wise it stacks up as well - such a unique kick / snare sound and guitar tones / effects / sound. Just listening to it again today for the first time in a long, long while and it might be weird to say but it almost sounds contemporary i.e. In line with the fusion of genres we are seeing done brilliantly by today's true musical geniuses.

Not allowed to formally rate yet as being fairly new to BEA - 90/100 - for originality, brilliant fusion of styles, well written songs and great sound production - any musician or music lover could find something on this album - warning very heavy at times - 7 string electric / 5 string bass guitars at full throttle!

Daddy is their greatest song ever made. And this is a really great album.

Finally listened to this album with an open mind for the first time after 20 years of being a hater. I have to finally admit this is a really good album. The guitar, drums. it all sounds fantastic. Really great singing. Yeah, it rocks. I suppose a song like Shoots and Ladders works on this album because they were yet to be caricatures of themselves.
Favorite song: Faget

ONE OF THE MOST DISTURBING ALBUMS Ever. The 1st listening is a deeping experience, the lyrics of J. Davis are very deeply, amazing and disturbing. The 1st album of Nu Metal is very different from the others to come later.

This is definitely one of the best albums of the 90s, right up their with Nevermind, Ten and Rage Against the Machine's Debut. This album just has this raw aggression which all of korn's other album's lack and also mangages to mix many different genres together like grunge, groove metal, hip hop, industrial metal and funk metal without sounding like a mess while giving a chilling insight into the mind of a paranoid drug addict (Davies had a severe cocaine & speed addiction during the recording of this album). In retrospect this album had as much of an impact on music as Nirvana's Nevermind did. It's sad Korn have spent the rest of their career trying to remake this album over and over again, Korn's new albums are so awful i honestly just can't listen to them. And no i am not a Korn/Nu-metal fan.
