A layered, ambitious, anthemic, lovely, and disarmingly pure and earnest album of '80-style pop that, for all its obvious synthesizers, always evolves in organic-feeling ways. The Agony Family have no unusual skill as lyricists, but there's something to their irony-free philosophical bent that's sweetly appealing, and Earth is a masterclass in song structure, and the modest but reliable flow of new musical ideas.
