Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.0/100, a mean average of 78.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.7.

Some definite highlights, but didn't really work as an album for me. Routine and the title track are great but I'm not too impressed with the rest.

This is a fantastic album. I wasn't to keen after hearing a couple of his records but after this I am starting to question if I have criminally under rated his work. The songs are just incredible and beautifully crafted. In unison, the tracks create a cohesive and smooth flowing masterpiece that never really dips in quality. Each song could stand by itself whilst also working in the concept of the album. The instruments are also really allowed to be shown off and you can admire the quality of output that is being done on this record. Then there are the lyrics which are so much fun to explore and it is very interesting to look into the context around the album. Overall, the album blends pop and prog rock to create a magnificent experience that is really rewarding to listen too and it makes me want to go back and look into his other work again.

Well, a fine album overall. Not his best album, even though its pretty similar to his other works.
Maybe my Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson phase is over.

I knew Porcupine Tree but the name Steven Wilson wasn't on my radar until he put out this amazing album. I know he hates the comparison, to be the Pink Floyd of this generation, and this the album where I understand what he is trying to achieve: the interaction between the already known prog rock influences with pop and electronic elements make his trademark. He moves out from the expected structures. Every new album gets a different approach. The evolution of Pink Floyd is due to the change of music leaders. Here a single artist goes out to explore sounds for his own, in order to come back with something different each time, but with a mark that only can be attached to a Steven Wilson production.

This album has grown to be one of my favorites. Huge fan of 3 Years Older especially. The whole album is deeply emotional, technically fantastic, and overall brilliant.

A powerful prog album with many influences from pop and electronica. This may sound like a wreck, but Wilson manages to use them successfully. Pop melodies are like painting brushes, giving color to the album, and a lot of subtle details. Story is awesome, and depicts a lot of feelings with a depth only Steven can provide. Wilson has found the sweet spot on which there is cohesion yet the tracks work individually without losing their strength.

The album title is so powerful. As well as the story it is inspired from. And the album does justice to both of them. The music is so urgent and the album FEELS important. I love and am haunted by the imageries it invokes. Hand. Cannot. Erase. Its so good! I really want more people to listen to it.
