Our family (2 parents & 6 kids) had moved to Blacktown (western suburbs of Sydney, Australia). We had our first TV - black & white, with only 3 channels. The TV also housed a radio & a record player. The songs I remember most vividly from that year are: The Lion Sleeps Tonight (& I still love that song!); Runaway; Wooden Heart; My Boomerang Won't Come Back; Baby Face: Hit The Road Jack. I get the sense that I was already forging a tight connection to modern music by this age as I would sing songs I heard on the radio as I went about the business of being 5 - walking to/from school; hanging out with neighbourhood friends. In terms of ranking the year (1961) from the 63 years between 1960 - 2022, it is not going to get above #62 of 63. Apart from a few songs, there is not much that connects me the the artists, the albums, the era.
