Muse's last album was not wildly different in style and I don't see them being sell outs. Someone's just pissed that they were commercially successful, which in and of itself isn't sellling out.

Selling out for a musician is when you deliberately change your sound to something more in tune with what the masses are listening to for the sole, specific purpose of making a commercially successful album. That is, rather than making new sounds the masses flock to, you make a sound like what the masses have already flocked to in hopes they accept yours as well. There's no artistry in it, there's no real creativity, you're simply following established musical formulas to get rich. Pop singers can't be said to be sell outs because they sold themselves when they decided to become pop singers. But a band noted for its creativity and relatively unique approach to music suddenly sounding like 90% of the other groups out there on a new album is a sure sign of someone selling out.

A-Avenged Sevenfo is... uh... this... uh... this really obscure experimental post-punk band. From the 80's. Which were overrated.

Well, considering the only hit songs by the Village People all involve shameless corporate endorsement, I'd have to say that the Village People are hands down the biggest sell-outs in the world.
