one of my first cassettes (whatever those are). solid rock album. they should rerecord this song with thom yorke on backing vox singing "i want my P2P" .

There are some good songs on Brothers In Arms, but for the most part, I think it's nowhere near as great as it's remembered...and it's far from the best work of Dire Straits.

"Money For Nothing" has a riff that's not as good as Knopfler had on other albums, the "I want my MTV" thing is laughable in 2012, and while Sting may have been a very desired rock singer in the 80's, his inclusion now sounds cheesy. "Walk Of Life" is a flat out pop song with overdone keyboards...what Dire Straits was good at was the opposite of this song. The better songs for me ("Ride Across The River", "Brothers In Arms") are more indicitive of what the bulk of the record really is...slow and snoozy.

I'll take their debut or Making Movies over this one any day.

Whether you like it or not Money for Nothing is one of the most distinct guitar riffs known. Personally I think it's pretty damn cool.

As I was listening to this there were a few times that I wasn't all that pleased. I was glad to hear it ended with what I think is my favorite track on the record. Also, I'm new to these "of the day" boards and I look forward to learning more about the tension between kida and naples. It keeps me coming back.
