Eggman/Walrus/Taxman wrote:

I prefer Biggie, to tell the truth. Pac made two AWESOME albums, but Ready to Die beats them both.

And I'm Pakistani :|

TBH the racial thing is just something I've noticed amongst my friends. It probably isn't true to any significant extent outside of the people I know. But the vast majority of my white friends love Biggie (and get defensive about him) whilst constantly putting down Pac, and vice versa when it comes to my Asian friends.

Hayden wrote:

Kanye > Ghostface > Biggie.

Nas would probably be up there if he was more consistent...

On rapping alone Kanye doesn't come into the equation. His production skills, versatility, originality and ability to make a great album make him one of the greatest artists hip-hop has ever seen. As a rapper though, he doesn't even make Top 50.

Nas, to my mind, is the greatest rapper of all time. Not my favourite, but the best. Ghostface is my favourite rapper ever, and probably makes Top 10 in terms of rapping. As an artist again he is better than Nas.

As rappers:
Nas > Big > Ghost >>>>>>>>> Kanye

As artists:
Ghost > Kanye > Nas > Big

It's difficult because everything boils down to personal opinion, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to find any real hip-hop heads who thinks that Kanye is anything more than an average rapper. Average flow/cadence, average lyrics. He's got a distinctive voice, but that's about all.

That was pretty fucking hard though, they're all very good.

Biggie shits all over 2 pac though, well all of them do really. Don't know about this racial divide, my black best mate prefers Biggie but maybe I should ask more black and asian people.

100% agree. Tupac had stronger lyrics, but Biggie had better rapping skills. I think it's dumb when people can't like them both.

The album isn't flawless. 'Illmatic' is flawless. But Nas was never as charismatic or accessible as Biggie. Wu broke down the doors for hard East Coast rap (in the vein of Kool G. Rap) to make a real comeback, and Big's smooth, effortless flow combined with Puffy's pop sensibilities spawned a truly great album and the blueprint for commercial rap throughout the rest of the nineties. I could listen to this album all day, and it is so much better than 'Life After Death'. However, it's another case of 'right place, right time'.

Meh... Biggie is more talented than 2pac, but they did employ similar patterns to their careers. I wouldn't say that 2pac isn't in Biggie's league, he's just not quite to his standard.

Biggie's so much more talented than 'pac and shouldn't be uttered in the same breath. And yeah this album is a masterpiece of hip-hop. The combination of talking bout how rich and successful he is and then talking about his 'suicidal thoughts' is pitch perfect contrast.

Biggie had the smoothest flow... I compare him to Tupac - immensely talented, supported by gifted producers, and strong flow. Sometimes their lyrics are pure poetry, sometimes its misogynistic cliched crap. It's too bad they were both cocksure morons who couldn't turn away from the thug life.

A lot of amazing tracks on this album, but for some reason Warning is the one that has stuck with me the most, and pretty much the only one I still come back to, since its never on the radio or playing at the bar. How something so over the top can still feel authentic is quite a feat, comparing Rick Ross's "acting" to Biggie's, there's no competition. When Biggie says, "There's gonna be a lot of slow singing, and flower bringing, if my burglar alarm starts ringing" you fully believe it.
