Thanks for the advice! That definitely seems like the best route now, especially since I'll be at college in 2 months. It's just not worth it anymore.

And my mom is offended by a lot of Stones stuff, too... haha. I had fun ruining Angie (one of the few RS songs she liked) by telling her it was about Mick Jagger and David Bowie getting caught in bed... hehehe.

yeah i agree completely, pushing boundaries is a lot of what makes art interesting. i doubt my mom would be very keen to that argument though haha

I do think Kurt Cobain was often provocative in his lyrics, but I think it was his way of writing about some dark subjects and emotional black holes. Shit! Think of all the great works of art and literature, music etc. that deal with different types of sin and other dark subject matter in a provocative way. A lot of Shakespeare's stuff falls into that category, for example. The plot of Hamlet is pretty disturbing if you think about it. 🤔

Yeah I listen to a lot of music through headphones, especially like rap. I'd played Rape Me with her nearby before and she hadn't said anything, so I thought she didn't notice the one key lyric... nope haha.

And that's not a bad comparison, except she's not as intellectual lol. She's smart, just... illogical and emotional.

Oh, and as for the logic, our great and might prophet Joseph Smith was told by God himself not to drink "hot drinks." Which was interpreted as caffeine. In other words, no logic needed, blindly follow the mighty leader!

It's a rite of passage that you enjoy music that your parents dislike/find offensive. It happens to everyone at some stage, even those of us with extremely liberal parents. My dad couldn't understand why I'd possibly want to listen to grime as a kid, and with such a hyper, abrasive sound and lyrics like "you're a prick, I'll end your life real quick", it's not difficult to see why. But he just shook his head, rolled his eyes and left me to it.

Seriously, if you're mum is offended by 'Rape Me', go search out some Devilman or early More Fire Crew, then blast it at full volume. She'll be begging you to put Nirvana back on.
