Thanks for the replies guys.
I loved Amélie's soundtrack and will probably check more of Yann Tiersen. Though this song despite its title isn't his song, but is a french pop song from the 30s (by Fréhel), which is what I was hoping to hear more of (again, not necessarily french).

Been meaning to listen to Billie Holiday for a while, will probably do so now. Also thanks for Buena Vista Social Club recommendation, for some reason I didn't think of them at all.

Yann Tiersen is one of my favorite artists. In my opinion "L'Absente" is Yann at his best so I really recommend that one to you, though if you like the Amelie soundtrack you should explore all his music, which is very alike, except for his last record ehich IMO is not that good...

Sorry, I saw this thread, but then got distracted and didn't reply.

I have the Amélie soundtrack if you want to give it a spin. Yann Tiersen has a number of other albums, all in a similar vein (though I've yet to hear any of them). He also did the soundtrack for Good Bye Lenin!

For that specific song, though, I'm afraid I cannot help you there, nor with Dexter.

I'll agree with cartoken though, or perhaps the Buena Vista Social Club (from Havana).

So, via various album charts and recommendations, I was able to expand my wishlist quite a bit, and it will be a while before I actually listen to all those albums. But right now I'm in a mood for a different kind of music, mostly from the time "before" album, so it's a bit more difficult to find the recommendations for them.

Link

I've only now watched Amelie, though I knew this song before already. Loved it (the movie too) and would want to hear more of that. Doesn't have to be french (ie Edith Piaf).

Link

Dexter's soundtrack (especially season 1) is something made in heaven, with these kind of songs adding something special to an otherwise very mystic atmosphere. Again, doesn't have to be Cuban music, but I'd really like to hear more in the same vain.
