Hayden wrote:

Meh. Not 100% true. The Velvet Underground are in there, and they never got on any 'charts' or anything. Nor did they get much radioplay.

And, personally, I've never even heard a song by The Platters, LaVern Baker, Jimmy Reed, Sam & Dave, Duene Eddy, Little Willie John, The Rascals, Lloyd Price, Gene Vincent, The Moonglows, Ritchie Valens, Brenda Lee, The Dells, Little Anthony and the Imperials, The Hollies, Darlene Love, The Blue Caps, Donovan, Famous Flames, Small Faces or The Midnighters.

There all in it. 😐

Anyone have an artist I should check out first?

EDIT: OH SHIT. The Pretenders are in it? 🧱 🧱 ](*,)

I've never heard most of these artists either, but I thought I'd point out that if you've listened to Jack White's new album then you actually have heard a song by Little Willie John. I'm Shakin' is a Little Willie John Cover.

I like the hall as it is, all forms of music included. Well, apart from avant garde and classical but i can live with that.

Keeping out mingus and coltrane is silly, they'd work fine for the influences section.

It's a sliding scale I guess, but this is definitely fusion and definitely rock:

Link

If you haven't heard any of the artists you mentioned, you really probably should. What happened in the '50's and 60's was very important in the evolution of the music you listen to today, and it shouldn't be forgotten. Or ignored. I don't agree with a lot of what the R&R HOF does, but ast least they have gotten a lot of the pioneers in.

No offense (well, no big offense) but you can't really blame the HOF that you haven't heard those artists. They're not, for the most part, exactly unknown.

I kind of assume the hall of fame will suck and that way when something good does get in, its something to be happy about. Anyways, what can we do, it caters mostly to the classic rock/rolling stone version of rock history. Its a hall of "fame" not a hall of "quality" unfortunately.

Not quite the same thing, but I find the United States national recording registry kind of more varied, accepting and interesting:
Similar to the mindset of Rolling Stone magazine (which is the last music mag I would buy), its very clicky and thinks Run DMC, the Beastie Boys, and Jackson Browne should be in before the legends I mentioned. I love Springsteen, but he couldwipe his ass all over a copy of RS, or piss all over the HOF and they would still worship him. Maybe tbose ancient dope smoking hippies should get out of there, so the bands that really inspired people to pick up a guitar can get in.

Well. I agree with most of this if you got rid of Thin Lizzy, Kiss, Deep Purple & Judas Priest in the first line.

I actually think it's an insult to the history of rock music. It completely ignores underground music. (or what most of society thinks is 'obscure'). Joy Division, Arcade Fire, Sonic Youth & Radiohead, etc...At least the Talking Heads are in it, which is surprising.

There's only few good artists in the inductees right now. Tom Waits being a recent one. Miles Davis shouldn't be there, for he isn't rock. 🙄 Same with Run-DMC. Madonna is fucking in it 🧱 Bonnie Raitt, Tom Petty, Rod Stewert, Ruth Brown & Dion 🙄 ugh. Like, WTF? 🤡
They should just tear down the entire think and forget it existed.

It's a complete waste of time. How bands like Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Rush, Thin Lizzy, Kiss, etc... can be ignored is just a disgrace. Similar to the mindset of Rolling Stone magazine (which is the last music mag I would buy), its very clicky and thinks Run DMC, the Beastie Boys, and Jackson Browne should be in before the legends I mentioned. I love Springsteen, but he could wipe his ass all over a copy of RS, or piss all over the HOF and they would still worship him. Maybe tbose ancient dope smoking hippies should get out of there, so the bands that really inspired people to pick up a guitar can get in.

After I've gone through all the inductees, I've realized that there's not a single krautrock band in this hall. Strange, as krautrock was one of the most innovative and influental movements in the history of rock music. At least Kraftwerk (and maybe Can) deserves to be among the inductees.

They don't seem to be very friendly to progresive rock either.

I think they're doing a pretty good job on the inductees, though there are some truly baffling exclusions such as Deep Purple, Kraftwerk and Joy Division.
