Had to go with 91 this time, definitely the stronger selection overall. Good effort from Itsit though with some decent choices for 71 😄

I think 1971 is far more accessible. Sure, Tago Mago is probably the most out there album, but take a look at 1991: Loveless is noisy and introspective, Spiderland has close to zero melody and includes more spoken word parts than actual singing, many people don't get hip hop and while I haven't heard Blue Lines myself, it's often cited as being dull and repetitive. On the other hand, Bowie, Stones and Sabbath are all rock legends who have anthems in spades and are all very accessible.

I voted 1991 myself, but I don't think it's weird that it's a close match up.

Well, the site does have a lot of traffic, more than years past. Maybe new members are jumping in and voting, and unfortunately, they might not know the rules or the guidelines that have been set up. I also think it's funny to put forward a conspiracy theory that someone might then read and think, "Hey, that's a good idea. Maybe I should do that." 🤣

No not the whole thing but certainly the level of outcry in the last page or so was intentionally a joke.

But yes there are some of who certainly think an older year bias (whether valid or not) does play into this tournament and discussions on BEA at large. Just look at Xavygravy's comments in the rules sections and a couple of matches.

Maybe that word was tongue in cheek, but if you go to the rules section, if you check out Dggld's recent comment, there appears to be a group of people that think the older year wins most of the time just because it's older. Are you telling me this whole issue has been nothing but an elaborate joke? Sorry. I'm not buying that.

Also, there are emoticons to show you're being sarcastic or tongue in cheek. It's a good idea to use them, since tone doesn't always come across very well on the internet.

First off, both teams are strong. 1991 is powerful, but '71's team is no slouch here. Second, maybe it isn't such a good idea to posit the theory that if people vote for older teams, they are being prejudiced or closed minded. Gee, I wonder why 1971 voters aren't coming forward and revealing themselves. It wouldn't be because some of you have stigmatized them with word like "sheeple," and have accused them of not being able to think outside the box. No, I'm sure that's not it! 🙄

Finally, can we just play the game and stop complaining every time the team you think should win isn't.? Remember, as much as we music fans would like to think it's objective, in the end, taste is subjective all the way, and so is the voting for this tournament.
