The Gun Club - Fire of Love

This is the band's debut album. It's "special" for its sound, which is a blend of punk rock and "roots music".

this album is just really fantastic. it's like a bunch of hillbillies from an indistinct time period that happened to have a decent amount of latent musical talent were thrust (sexually) into 1981 and found out about punk rock and decided to write songs about being a fucking hillbilly. it's not obnoxious like country music (controversial!) but it has some elements of it (slide guitar, ...others) but they're in totally reasonable amounts.

the funny thing is that all this was written by a guy who grew up in the suburbs and listened to crazy underground music throughout high school. so every yelp and wail and scream and I WAS HUNTIN FOR NIGGERS DOWN IN THE DARK is just the product of some guy's imagination and not from any actual culture. so that pretty much fits all of my qualifications of "genius".

the music is a lot of fun by the way. listen to the lyrics because sometimes there'll be a line that makes you feel tingly a little bit and then SLIDE GUITARRR YEAHHH SCREAMING so yeah listen to it

Glenn Branca - The Ascension
Well here's the guy who wrote symphonies and other compositions for electric guitar orchestras (a side note, one of the guitarists here was Lee Ranaldo). Good idea or not? You decide.

Last few minutes are amazing. What a sound.

Alright, let's get weird.

This Heat - Deceit
This is the band's second and last studio album. While slightly more "conventional", compared to their debut, it is still quite "out there". It is considered by many a post punk and experimental rock classic. Here are some quotes by relevant or irrelevant people:

Šarlo Akrobata - Bistriji ili tuplji čovek biva kad
I'm not gonna bother translating the title, because I'm not sure what it means. Anyway, this was the band's only full length album, released the same year they introduced themselves on the Paket Aranžman project. This is a considerably more experimental release, with a heavier bassline and occasionally very abstract compositions. Lyrically it's also a bit abstract, what I do understand however is filled with irony.

Probably the most conventional of all. The lyrics are about lamenting that you are never able to be the "first one to do something", "setting an example", i.e. you are always "the follower".

This one is on the opposite end of the spectrum. It's called "A Love story". The lyrics are about him (and another unspecified person) washing their car. (some of the lyrics: "hand me the detergent" ... "And give me this rug", etc.);

"Take care of the children". Another "wacky" song, at first I thought it was an ironic look at the overprotective parenting. It might just be too much drugs while making this song...

As for the band, they split up soon after. The bassist continued with his experimental tendencies in group Disciplina kićme". More bass, less melodies. In fact, their debut is pretty much a drum n bass record. On the other hand, guitarist Milan Mladenović went on to form the more "conventional sounding" Katarina II (later renamed to Ekatarina Velika), which became one of the most succesful rock bands in Ex-Yugoslavia.
