I haven't actually listened to much music I've actively hated for a long time.
I was going to vote pretentiousness, but Dog Man Star by Suede is one of my favourite records and it's pretentiousness is it's appeal in some way. Something like I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning is pretentious in a bad way, sounds like a young man who's experienced nothing traumatizing singing about philsophy - but it's some pretty good music.

I suppose the only real point I'll dismiss music is when it's dull or if it's "screamo" - I've never thought screaming in music for long periods of time really proves much, passion can be much better put across through words.

When talking about ass-wiping, it could be interesting to put on music at the same time and see how it would influence the ass-wiping. I imagine:

Captain Beefheart: dadaist ass-wiping
John Coltrane: spiritual ass-wiping
Gorgoroth: satanic ass-wiping
King Crimson: ass-wiping with lots of changes in pace and time signatures
Kraftwerk: robotic ass-wiping
Frank Sinatra: classy ass-wiping
U2: overproduced ass-wiping

Either the band has made terrible music in the past of the music is terrible itself. The band would need to make music that I hate a lot in order for me to abandon them completely.

For me, it's mostly the music. I can look past everything else... but sometimes I struggle with an artist's outside behaviour. If I see them interviewed, and they're stupid, arrogant, ignorant, etc... It may colour my opinion. I wonder if politics matter? Would Paladisiac listen to a hard-core Republican supporting band? Would Naples listen to Springsteen anymore, knowing his politics? Perhaps... Politics betrays an overall ideology and philosophy, which would probably inflect the music anyway...

Outlaw, I think you are good at this writing stuff.

Anywaaaay... I don't care for the poll choices. I don't think they explore all sides of why someone doesn't like a music album, besides "you don't like the music on it"... well, of course! That one should be taken out. Instead have only choices that branch from that. Also include an "other" option, but I suppose "you don't like the music on it" is the closest thing, so I went with that.

So... my personal main reason for not liking music on an album is when it sounds like other stuff I've heard before. I want to hear something different. A different instrument or combination of them. A different vocal style. A different way of using instruments I've heard before. A new approach to a style I've heard before, or maybe just taken to a different scale where it is simply a vast improvement.

I guess the simplest way for me to put it is that the biggest turn-ons for me in music are things that I don't understand, and the biggest turn-offs are stuff that I understand too well. The more I understand it, the more it becomes boring to me.

the things that ruin music for me is like 80% just not liking the music and the other 20% is because of over hype form the music community (Death Grips for example)

One time i tried wiping my ass sitting down and my hand went straight into the toilet bowl
