1. Rory Gallagher (tremendously underrated blues guitarist. Jimi Hendrix said Gallagher was the best guitarist in the world.)
2. Overkill (One of the first and greatest thrash metal bands ever.)
3. UFO (or maybe you have heard of them but they're still tragically underrated. Michael Schenker is a guitar god).

dEUS - band, of which I knew nothing before ... today, I have just listened to the band's 1996 album (couple songs). Certainly popular in Belgium. And surprisingly well-known on this site (BEA), thank you.

It depens on. People who are into music (especially 60s music) or British people know them. But in other countries not many people know them. I think they are very underrated, along with the Kinks, everyone - especially the older generation - should know who they are.

A lot have heard of O and O but they have so many gems like walking in the sun and i could spend the day that almost no one knows

these are all great... BRAVO. But I've heard of them, so you fail... I would put Beirut up top, Sparklehorse 2nd, Battles 3rd, and Antony & the Johnsons 4th...

Probably every peruvian band ever is relatively unknown, but El Polen is one of the few I'd recommend. They play psychedelic jams mixed in with traditional peruvian folk music. I think they're great, but maybe it's because I'm already used to the regular vanilla peruvian folk...
