Not as good as Off The Wall, but better than Bad. And just because something's refined doesn't necessarily mean it's soulless. I rarely ever listen to MJ these days (mainly due to oversaturation), but this album is pretty fucking good.

It would probably be at least a decent album if it wasn't so inconsistent.

There's no way to prove this comment. Same as their is no way to prove that peopl just like Trout Mask Replica because they are "supposed to".

I actually enjoy it. It's some of the best straight up dance pop around. Also, look at the chord progressions of different Michael Jackson songs. They are actually quite good.

Of course people like it because they like it. What I'm saying is that there are definitely at least some people who base their opinion of it off of Michael Jackson's image and the album's legacy. And I know that music is subjective. I was talking about people who don't think that music is subjective.

...and the reverse is true. Some people reject popular music because they're supposed to. I hope most judge music by how it makes them feel, not whether it's popular, or whether they need to ensure their elite image.

I like Thriller. It's refined to the point of sterility, but it's got perfect danceable hooks and beats. It is pop music.

Only looking at the cover makes me vomit , imagine what the "music" on it would do to my environment....

Or maybe because it's catchy and fun?

I don't even like MJ that much, but some of these songs are irresistible

Got this yesterday, there's just something about it, I'm not really a fan of pop at all, but this album just makes you want to get up and dance! (Which I am doing cause I'm cool like that 😎 )

Here's what I realized after listening to this yesterday.

This album is The Avengers of music. In other words, there are no flaws; it's completely focus group tested. That's why it sold so many copies.

But that's also what sorta irritates me about it. It's so bland. Don't get me wrong; I love pop music. But doing things just to sell copies just seems so UGLY to me.

It's 30 years with one of very important albums in popular music history. I'm not fan of Michael Jackson and this album but I have it on my shelf.
