I think the key here is "Prefer."
Another band like this for me is CCR. They have great studio albums, but nothing can beat their Chronicle, Vol. 1 greatest hits release.

Beggars Banquet is the only album I've heard from them that was any good.
The Who (though Quadrophenia might change my mind on this whenever I listen to it)
Beach Boys EXCEPT for Pet Sounds.

Agree on Beach Boys, but I'd include the Smile Sessions as well.

Also, I'd switch the Stones album to Exile, but I agree there as well; their albums aren't bad, but the singles from those albums are always fucking perfect and make the rest of the songs seem drab.

Sugar Ray
Queen

there's more, but I really can't think of them off hand.

New Order. Substance is one of my absolute favourite albums and if I included compilations on my list, then it would easily make my top 20. However, their albums are incredibly inconsistent and weak. I second the post about The Beach Boys and Simon and Garfunkel.

Yeah...if a band becomes part of your life and you start attending their shows, you most likely will own all their albums. Judas Priest, Bruce Springsteen, Black Sabbath, Bob Seger, and Zeppelin would be those bands for me. All the others are several albums, or even one or two albums by those bands that I can take or leave...and to a lesser extent, a hits package works just fine.

Alot of bands...ones that aren't my favorites. If you have heard enough of any groups music to determine whether you'd really
spend your money on all their albums, or purchase a compilation, it depends on how much you like the music, how much dough you are willing to part with. Keep in mind...you are STILL paying the artist when you buy a Best Of.
