There are some days I listen to only a couple songs a day; others though, such as the past two days as I'm working on Illustrator 24/7 for a fucking project, I listen to music non-stop for about six or eight hours at a time

Just standard MP3, in various bitrates (mostly 192 or over). Fanatics will say that this is way too bad a format, but really, for most listeners (including myself) it's good enough and then some, and I don't want to have ten external drives to be able to carry my record collection.

Yeah, it's not too much worse than AAC. Many of my files are at 192Kb as well. But I mostly play my albums on my Imac speakers (maybe that's why I'm not enjoying Kid A :o), so I wouldn't get much value out of lossless.

Still, I never use my Ipod with my hi-fi rig; just my CD collection. Non-lossless doesn't really bring the "value" for your equipment IMO.

I have all my music on an external hard drive, with an additional external hard drive for backup. The drive is hooked up to the wireless network so I can access it from the computers in my office, in the kitchen and in the family room where I have it hooked up to the hi-fi system with good speakers. It has a tendency to skip a little sometimes when run over the wireless, but that is rare enough to not be a nuisance.

Currently there are:
- 263 GB
- 1,472 album artists (2,435 artists when duets and contributors to collections are listed separately)
- 3,229 albums
- 41,033 songs
- 110 days and 9 hours total playing time

I spend too much time sorting and tagging all the music and am a bit of a nazi about having the correct info in the tags, but it does pay off as I can now play random songs more effectively (for instance random songs with 4+ rating, random outlaw country songs, random 60's/70's classic rock songs, random songs penned by Bob Dylan but not performed by Bob Dylan, etc.)

Everything is in mp3-format and I play it all using Winamp.

Top artists in number of songs:

316 Johnny Cash
273 The Rolling Stones
260 Bruce Springsteen
259 Bob Dylan
242 Waylon Jennings
216 Toby Keith
215 The Beatles
189 Bob Seger
182 Kiss

I work from home and have the good fortune of being able to play music all the time, so I would guess I listen to on average ten albums a day from start to finish, and the rest of the awake time I have random music after whichever criteria I currently feel like running.

You'll pardon me if I don't hold you opinions in high esteem then 😉 Besides, my money goes to mortgage, car, kid's school, college debt, utilities, food, etc. Not a lot left at the end of the day. But I have listened to more than I own now due to certain technological developments.

I'd also state it's the height of arrogance to suggest Naples forms his opinions based on preconceived notions just because he doesn't like your music. Everyone has their own tastes.

Hmm...I think I'd better stop posting today - I've been very contentious on every forum I'm posting.

Not really a question of money, but rather how much people are willing to listen to before throwing their opinions around (myself included). Shit, the best equipped user to tell us the absolute best albums they've heard amongst everything released (RFNaples) decides to base his opinion off pre-existing notions, rather than what actually sounds the absolute best to his ears... And as for uses for money, once you've wasted it on rent and food etc., I believe every dollar should be spent on music and booze and dance parties

Well, I've only been listening to music "seriously" for the past 5 years or so and I buy a good portion of it, so that's something to consider.

Just found this website and decided to join in the fun.

My collection is two parts Pearl Jam and non PJ.

Non is 95% flac: all ripped from cds, 50% not owned.
approx 198 gb, 10,952 songs

Pearl Jam mostly mp3
88 gb, 15,661 songs. Pretty much every concert. I like me some PJ!

Only about ten of those albums (max) have only one song on them, and I've been working on this since fall of last year. I would have thought that you guys would have a lot more than me!
