i disagree. most people who say so are isosceles triangles who are only saying so to appear "cool" or to fit in with the "hipster" image and not be judged by other hipsters/snobs

I think that's a pretty wild assumption to make. Without doubt there are people that say they dislike something because it's cool to do so, but I wouldn't say "most" do. I'm pretty sure "most people" who say they dislike U2 or The Beatles genuinely dislike U2 or The Beatles.

To defend Sethmadsen: However, there are those out there that feel they must hate certain bands; good, bad, or otherwise (Oasis, Coldplay, U2, etc...) because they see themselves a certain way, and hating these bands fits the image. Likewise, these people often will cite obscure artists they like in an attempt to appear more cutting edge. These people are wankers, and excessively tiresome.

I for one used to fall into that trap. I have now come to realize that I should judge every band on my own opinion, not on the accompanying image I want to create.

I'm not sure if you're joking or not (though they are better than U2). I'm not a big fan of their music, but they aren't bad by all means. They're actually a really odd band if anything, not really easy to get into, and they really confuse the hell out of me. Overall, they're a solid band only avoided because they're grouped into bands that the general person thinks are bad without really listening to.
