I don't think we disagree anywhere except in semantics. First-wave feminism started as a reaction to a patriarchal society. And yes, both men and women feed back into what are termed patriarchal ideals, which can negatively affect them. In my mind, it still doesn't excuse the terms feminism and patriarchy. They are dinosaur words.

Like you said, third-wave feminism recognizes that gender inequality negatively affects all genders. Yet they still use the gender-biased terms "feminism" and "patriarchy" positively and negatively, respectfully. I wasn't born into a 100% "patriarchy;" I am not a member of the "patriarchy;" I try not to support the "patriarchy;" but I have a male gender identity. So, when someone uses a blanket term like "patriarchy" negatively, when associated with ideals that I otherwise support, I feel conflicted. On the other side, as you pointed out, the goal of third-wave feminism is to eliminate negative gender bias to better all genders. Yet they still use the term "feminism." It's hard to knock on a positive word, but I imagine some males and transgenders feel that this continuing movement could use a better name. Ultimately, my beef is simply with keeping historical words for what has become something greater: a movement for general equality. I'll reiterate:

Don't respect a woman for being a woman.
Don't respect a man for being a man.
Respect a person for being a fucking person.

p.s. I've lost all respect for anyone who has used the term patriarchy lightly in this thread.

For me, some of the lyrics on Ice Cube's Death Certificate album offends me. Particulary on songs such as"Black Korea", "True to the Game", and "No Vaselines". What offended me the most about those songs are his racist lyrics against Asians and Jews (even though this album came out the same year as the Rodney King beatings). And then there's the track called "Cave Bitch" on his third album, Lethal Injection, That song says some really disrespectful things about white women.

In my opinion, fighting racism with racism doesn't solve anything. It only makes things worse.

On the topic of TJ, I think TJ is an asshole and a bully and I'm OK with that. Actually, I wish TJ took the asshole thing to the next level in video. Would be entertaining IMO.

As much as I liked to put this rest, I just can't seem to stop arguing about the off topic topic. The only problem with your theory is that you are assuming that he is assuming that the person he is talking to is a girl. Not that you're wrong, it's just that an argument shouldn't be based of an assumption (of course if it's not an assumption, then feel free to prove me wrong, as that is the case in many arguments, not necessarily mine, but just in general). In the end, being a misogynist doesn't detract from his already horrible personality and etc. (and not being a misogynist doesn't help his case either), but I just rather not label someone with untrue labels

He's a misogynist, he's just an asshole, whatever, that's just semantics. Focusing on putting labels on him like that will only stoop to his level. What he can be properly defined as is not important, it's what he says and does that deserves scrutiny, and I am never defending him or giving him any sort of serious credence after reading what I just read

As far as Terroja goes, I have to admit, his videos are hilarious (when he's trying to make a hilarious video that is). I have never laughed harder than his video "Stupidest youtuber ever".

I guess I have a new entry for my absolute least favourite people list. It's been a while since I've heard of someone so completely lacking in empathy and respect. Where did he get the idea that he was justified in hurling abuse at anyone he disagrees with? He seems to fall into the Bill O'Reilly category of people that think louder and angrier = more right. Do you hear that, fans? He's the atheist Bill O'Reilly.

I doubt there has ever been a time in his life where he has thought "Gee, I don't know much about this subject. Perhaps I should reserve judgement until I've gained a more robust understanding of the matter."

As for these "radical feminists" that you say are hardly present, maybe they are hardly present in your community and etc., but I know plenty of females (whether they are feminists or not) that have these double standards, they believe that women should have more rights and etc. Now I don't group them into feminists, but that doesn't matter, that way of thinking, having double standards, wanting more rights that another person, and etc. (whether male, female, white, or black) should not exist, whether it's the minority or the majority, it's still wrong.

And these "dangerous"/"closeted" (for lack of a better term) racists, anti - homosexuals, and etc. you talk about being closeted (for lack of a better term), I would say are decent people. Perhaps their opinions are something I totally disagree with, but they can contain themselves. They show that they are decent people because they don't outright say it. They can control themselves which is better than those who don't.

On that note, they're still assholes, just decent enough not to act like assholes outside of what's in their brains.

It doesn't directly offend me per se, but I have an issue with the line "Farrakhan's a prophet that I think you ought to listen to". I mean it's just a religious belief, and much of the music I like is inherently and overtly religious in nature, but I just can't defend Farrakhan. I listen to enough hip-hop to have become pretty immune to the NoI bullshit, but Farrakhan as a person is just abhorrent. Also the blatant homophobia throughout much of the hip-hop I listen to is difficult to defend, but again I've become practically immune to it. My favourite record of last year was Roc Marciano's Reloaded, and that contained a number of offensive lyrics. It makes me pretty numb when I think about it too much to be honest, so I don't. I just try to enjoy the music, and if I find myself rapping along I'll miss out any homophobic slurs just as I do with the 'N'-word. It's just not something I feel comfortable saying. Maybe that's a case of me being too PC or whatever, but some words just hold so much weight, have such negative connotations and can have such severe consequences that it just isn't worth it. I realise I'm rambling now, so I'll just re-iterate that I can't get with that Farrakhan line (it's from Public Enemy's 'Bring The Noise', in case anyone was wondering).
