There's a couple that immediately spring to mind, both from the Western Sahara...

TINARIWEN

Link

GROUP DOUEH

Link

You could also try THE VERY BEST, who take the whole thing full circle and on their debut cover Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa...
Ali Farka Toure and his son Vieux both play entrancing Malian blues. Fela Kuti is a great Afro-funk composer worth checking out (Zombie and Expensive Shit, in particular, are necessary additions to any music fan's collection). King Sunny Ade is a funky Nigerian juju guitarist who everyone should check out. I'm not an expert, but I'm sure a few people here are and can give many more recommendations.

EDIT: I see Romanelli beat me to it with the King Sunny Ade mention. All the more reason to have a gander.

My favorite song with an african type vibe to it

A good album is Exuma by Exuma. I think it just has an african rock type sound to it (in my opinion, of course I'm not the genre guru).

Through listening to Paul Simon, Vampire Weekens, Animal Collective, Talking Heads etc, i started to love african guitar music. Like Ray Phiri. Anyone here knowing some great african guitar music?
