I don't know. Laughing Stock is a step forward in their philosophy of making music but I've listened to Spirit of Eden more overall but not recently.

Laughing Stock is yet another, if slight, improvement in their sound and songwriting. I like it even better.

Lee Harris (the drummer of Talk Talk) believes that Spirit of Eden is their best work. I tend to prefer Laughing Stock. I believe both albums transcend most other music I've heard.

Both are good, I would give the edge to Laughing Stock.

Mark Hollis' self-titled solo album is well worth checking out as well,
