JMan wrote:

Seth said Nirvana can make bad stuff sound good. That means Seth admits that Nirvana can be bad.

Look, my final opinion of Nirvana is this: They're OK. They have good songs, they have grwat songs, and they have very bad songs such as Territorial Pissings and Stay Away. I will listen to other Nirvana albums because i don't hate them. I just think they're EXTREMELY overrated. But they can be enjoyable. Lithium is one of those songs I really move to (body wise).

Can be bad... no... makes amazing dissonant, rough tones, etc... yes.

I think you come from a different musical generation and that is ok. I actually listened to the fist song off that Meat Loaf album. I can see the appeal musically... but I just don't like the emptiness of the human element in it... but you can go listen to that, and I will go listen to the artists that protested it and Van Halen and everyone else on your top ten but Led Zeppelin...

I have been trying to find the exact quote from The Edge of U2 about how they purposely didn't want to write music that the world was inundated with at the time... 10 minute guitar solos and notes running all over the place... they rejected that type of music... that is why they are called an Alternative band.

Anyways, to each his own. And no, there are no female choices (sarcasm if you can't see).

If anything, my favorite would be Nevermind because it has SLTS and Lithium on it.

I'll listen to it after In Utero, which I'm listening to right now, but YOU have to listen to Bat 2, Jason. ASAP!

I'll listen to it later. Right now, the conversation can just keep on going because I got the info I needed.

JMan wrote:

It was too "This is how it is!" and not enough explanation as to why they are good.

Ok this is why I think their music is awesome. This statement wraps it up, but may sound weird to someone who doesn't understand them: They make shitty stuff sound good :), they make stuff that sounds good, amazing and full of heart. I mean take the song Endless, Nameless (hidden track on Nevermind at the end). That song is pure shit, but AMAZING and full of raw emotion. It even is chanllenging when it comes to music theory. I haven't figured it out yet, but it sounds like they have tuned to some weird tuning, allowing them to go into a rage of craziness, but then come back to something that is beautiful, but still messed up.

Then you have a song like All Apologies. Def a top most beautiful songs ever written for me. It's melody is simple, the singing is heartfelt (real heartfelt, none of this Disney shit), and the structure of the song is just solid.

Then you have their Smells Like Teen Spirit kind of stuff that is just solid rock (punk). This should be self explanatory why they do amazing at this stuff... if you don't get it... keep trying... if you have put in an honest effort... I feel sorry for you.

On top of their music, they also gave the finger to the man, and anyone that can do that and gather people around to do that too. I like that person.
