It's worth listening to the whole thing, just to see where it goes. It's strength lies in it's curiosity, as to why Lou Reed made it and what he actually tried to achieve artistically. MMM may just be an endurance test, and it's never particualry enjoyable, but it is fascinating... just tough to absorb and listening to it twice seems almost like returning, on your own accord, to torturous captivity.

I don't know how you guys can consider Metal Machine Music as something partly worth listening to. I haven't listened to the whole album, only a few minutes, but come on! It's completely unlistenable! And after one minute you've heard the whole album, right?

As a reply to those who quoted me, It's not that I necessarily like the album (which I do to a degree), I just don't like Metallica. Of course, I'll say Ride The lightning and Master Of puppets are better than Lulu because they are. I'd rank Lulu right next to Metallica (eponymous album) and ...And justice For All on my enjoyment scale.

I don't know what it is about Lulu I like, just another album I never got the hate for.

personally, i sort of like the album in an ironic way, although i acknowledge that it is abhorrent.

I don't wanna seem like a sore thumb here, but I enjoyed Lulu more than most stuff by Metallica.

As far as MMM goes, i enjoyed that album, perhaps a bit weird, but I enjoyed it.

Three more names, although they might sound little like MMM: The Gerogerigegege, Torturing Nurse, and Hanatarash.

One might be interested to know that Yamatsuka Eye (leader of Boredoms) is a member of Hanatarash.

I also love musique concrete, took me a while to get it but I dig it now. I'm actually trying to get in to more noise right now. I'll check out the names you mentioned

Merzbow, Hijokaidan, Li Jianhong, Incapacitants... if someone is new to noise music, I recommend Kazumoto Endo, who has more variations in sound and rhythm in each song (also has the highest rated harsh noise genre album on RYM).
